WOW!!! I no longer think UCLA is the top team in the country to open next season. That is a huge loss for them. Partain will fill in nicely with time, but to lose the best setter in the country really hurts. USC just thrust themselves into the top fifteen, maybe even top ten. He was arguably the best all around setter in the country last year and is a significant upgrade from Hall. I'll bet no one is happier about this than David Hunt. Pepperdine may have just taken over as favorite in the MPSF. Anyone know the status on Jaspers transferring to Pepperdine? Which Partain bro are you talking about? I could have sworn Miles was getting more playing time than Marcus. It will be interesting to see which one comes out on top.

No one is better than Casey McGarry in NCAA Volleyball. My god is McGary overated on this forum and in general. If the refs called him out on his dozen or so doubles including on match point in the semifinals it would have been an even bigger slaughter. If he is the best setter in the country it doesn’t say much about the rest of the setters and looking at who the avca named as “all american” this year I guess that is true.

I’ve been following men’s ncaa volleyball for the past 30 years, and I’ve never seen anyone reach even 10% of the flow he has. I’ve seen it all. Karch, Andersen, Christensen, Sanders, and anyone else have nothing on McGarey’s hair. His hair seems to defy gravity as he sets against the flow from the opposite pin to Deweese. I don’t know what they put in the kid’s water, but my hair hasn’t seen better days since Vietnam.

Not you who attacks every coach, player, poster, decision you don't like claiming someone else is attacking you. Okay. I asked a genuine question, you avoided it, we can move on.

UCLA has known for a long time that Kobrine was graduating and moving on. The fact that he is now going to USC has no bearing on UCLA's situation. UCLA is in the same situation they were a month ago when Kobrine played his final match at UCLA.

best setter in the country? No. He is really good tho. No one is better than Casey McGarry in NCAA Volleyball. But he was outset by Bryce Dvorak in their matchup in the most important game of his career I'm curious what your yardstick is here. S Kobrine 1 kill (0.333), 40 assists, 1 ace, 1 solo block, 1 BA, 7 digs Dvorak 0 kills (4 attempts), 33 assists, 1 ace, 0 blocks, 1 dig Kobrine missing Champlin, Matautia, and McHenry and he still put up better numbers and set a smarter match than Dvorak. Dvorak is a great setter who will be the best in the nation one day soon, but he was not the best on the day in question. Kobrine was an unsung hero all season who had a knack for doing whatever needed to be done at the right time.

Losing the setter that should have been first team AA is a huge loss, whether you see it coming or not. He was a notch down from Ma'a in terms of all the ways he could contribute to the team, which is saying he was a great all around player. A setter with an all around game like his is a rare find. I'm sure Partain will grow into the spot nicely, but it will take time. UCLA has the best trio at the pins in the entire nation coming back next year, so if McHenry is healthy and Genis is the player he looks like he could be, they're in great shape. But you're lying to yourself if you don't think having Sam Kobrine back for another season would be great for the team.
