I cry a little inside when I see the six on the court now who didn’t make the Olympics roster but they still have to put on a smile. 😢 http://instagr.am/p/CP4Hd2psEXK 😪 Courtney’s and carlini’s eyes looked very puffy, like you know they’ve been crying 😢 really brave of them to really show to the game and take a picture with the group. I know they’re all professionals but it still doesn’t mean it’s not heartbreaking. It’s the Olympics...

I dont think it's a coincidence in Poulter's 3 matches Good matches: JT, Washington, Chi vs Serbia + SWP, Drews, Washington, Foluke vs Brazil + MBH, Drews, Washington vs Italy Bad Matches: Hill, MBH vs Serbia + no one vs Brazil + Krob vs Italy All of the hitters that have been with Poulter an extended amount of times have had good matches. The hitters who play their first match with Poulter (Hill, Krob, MBH; all arrived to camp late, if at all).... didn't have great success/a good combination right away Right! Poulter’s best connection today would’ve been with Mingardi and not because Mingardi is better than any American.

Literally ever? You think they've never practiced together? Really? Go away. match play is not practice play. come on. But you absolutely are positive they've never been on the same court together? I mean, like, practicing? Setters connecting with hitters? Scrimmages in a competitive gym don't approximate a match such that we should expect this team to be a functioning unit? That's simply stupid. Certainly games refine cohesiveness but if they spend two months in a gym together I hope it's not to braid each other's hair and sing camp songs with Karchy.

Question is, is there enough time between now and the Olympics to fix this (to some degree)? Like you said, the setters and hitters in club are together for months and months.

Per FIVB: Attack Drews 18-5-30, .500 Bartsch 16-2-33, .424 Robo 9-6-32, .094 Foluke 7-2-13, .385, Washington 6-1-12, .417 Reception Robo 5 pos / 9 total / 0 errors JWO 8 pos / 29 total / 2 errors Bartsch 6 pos / 29 total / 3 errors This seemed kinda off to me (wouldn't be the first time with FIVB stats), so I went back and did stats for hitting and this is what I got: Drews 19-2-30, .567 Bartsch 15-2-32, .406 Robo 12-5-33, .212 Foluke 7-2-13, .385 Washington 7-1-12, .500
You're hired! I'll be expecting your stats after every match.

They have 6 weeks to get it right. Poulter and Hancock have been with Hill/MBH/Krob for all of a few weeks. They'll get it together. If not... well good thing Larson is there.

I was working and missed the last couple sets. Who’s fault is it that we dropped one? I guess it's Larson fault for not being on the court.

I know people won't like to hear this, but I'm actually a fan of losing a few sets and even a match or two during this VNL. Too much winning makes players and the team get complacent and forget how to win when they're down.
I also think there are some raw emotions which haven't been processed yet by some of the players, after the Olympic roster was announced. Give them all a moment to process. I mean, I'm certain there are players are gutted for some of those who didn't make the Tokyo 12.
Part of me kiiiinda wishes that China kicks our butt and that we end up not winning the VNL. I think that would do us good in the long run. Idk, I could be off base, but when we didn't make it to the finals of the Grand Prix in 2014, the US really worked hard in the time off and they ended up winning the WCH in 2014. The purse of $1m would be nice, but I get your point. The players are different and times are different. Can the USA team win VNL and also Olympics. They sure are hungry for it, but so are all the other countries. It will be fun and interesting to see how this team develops.

These are professionals. This isn’t college or high school where you have to get used to how another player plays as an excuse. except... it is... The way Poulter sets Alexa Gray/Camilla Mingardi for 8 months is completely different than how Hill/Krob/MBH/Drews want to be set. Completely? No it isn't. The differences are overstated, as is the impact those differences have on the top setters.
