Question. If Turkey is the tops for pro, why does it seem like their national team isn’t always in the spotlight/one of the best teams? I know pro, people from all over play, but you would think it would coorelate to some success
@avid had a good response to this several week ago. I think he said something along the lines of what @toddyj said with one additional point, which I can't remember now. Bottom line is that the foreigner limit is the problem.
Their foreigner limit is more strict than Italy. However, Italy has more elite left side attackers. I don't know why that is. You would think Turkey would have more but like it was already stated, the best domestic talent gets stuck behind foreigners on the top 3-4 teams.

she's probably making around/over 500k in Japan...you don't ditch that unless one of the richer teams in Turkey offers you that much (the only European teams that can) Question. If Turkey is the tops for pro, why does it seem like their national team isn’t always in the spotlight/one of the best teams? I know pro, people from all over play, but you would think it would coorelate to some success Their foreigner limit is a problem. You're only allowed 3 on court, but all of the top teams have 4. So that means some matches, these teams need to play locals. This is where the problems come. All of the top teams (Vakifbank, Ecza, and Fenerbahce) get all of the best local talent.... but they're not playing/developing to become better players because they're not getting as much game time as they could be elsewhere. The international talent will always be better and get more time/important matches. That's why we're seeing so many good Turkish middles and liberos. Those positions aren't really used for foreigner spots in league matches. (mostly middles, there's no foreign liberos) They struggle developing OHs cause none of their current set of OHs start for their clubs (for the most part). Meliha is behind Gabi/MBH, Hande... well she was a mess at Ecza... Saliha/Fatma... on the bench... Tugba... on the bench... Derya started... but she's moving to Vakifbank/the bench next year. It's messy and complicated lol that was probably more than you asked for

Drews: 9-2-26 Thompson: 7-0-11 MBH: 12-0-27, 1 block Washington: 7-0-13, 1 block Krob: 11-3-28, 1 block Chi: 3-1-9, 4 blocks Hancock: 2 blocks
MBH had 29 receptions, Krob had 28, JWO had 7.
JWO had 14 digs, Hancock had 10, Krob 15, MBH 10.
(ill wait for USAV stats, these are FIVB)

My observations:
The good - JWO. Ugggh. We finally have a true libero. - MBH. She played better this time than against Italy. Also, she was passing well! - Double sub. I was actually afraid that Japan was getting the first two sets. Good thing Poulter and JT scored the needed points. - Robinson’s defense.
The bad - Robinson’s offense. She’s currently better at creating tiktok videos than hitting those balls. Sorry! - Pipe attacks. It’s just so frustrating to watch that there are still misconnects at this point. Not sure if it’s Hancock’s problem or the timing of the hitters.

9 attempts for Ogbogu. For all this good passing, it would be nice if we used her more offensively.

Keep working on it in practice but I think it’s a good idea to use the middles sparingly up until the Olympics. Why show your hand now? As the Olympics go on continue to set the middles more and more. If we get into a match with the top three teams our only real shot is to feed the middles all match long. Seems like the USA coaches agree with their selection of Poulter and Hancock. Washington hit over .500 this match. I have to believe if she is hitting that well in a tight match she would see more than 4 sets a game.

Some of us just need more than a week to get over it ok. I'm almost there....but bear with us Carlini stans a bit longer please. Some of us believe that with out her, the teams gold medal chances, slim as they were from the get go, have possibly evaporated. We just need a bit to come to terms with that new reality. I still hope for the best for USA. However, I am cautiously optimistic that the team can keep up this trend, with the chosen Olympic roster. They still haven't been properly tested against a single opponents A-team. Brazil was close but not quite their best line up. So until the team is tested (probably not until we face China next week), those of us who advocated for other players, will continue to be vocal. You are welcome to hit that block button in the meantime.

I would add Drews getting a bit more creative with her shots to that list. I also agree with several others on here that Japan probably just knows how to stop her because they all are probably used to her by now since she plays in their domestic league. I still think Drews will be the starter and should be until she struggles in which case, Thompson is our secret weapon coming off the bench. I'm fine with that narrative.

With the quality of the middles and Larson/Robinson's terminating abilities that has to be the way to go...
Not that players like Hill/Larson/Robinson are bad, but they play with players like Egonu/Boskovic/Zhu in the Italian/Turkish leagues who are attracting 80% of the opponent's attention and take most of the OOS attacks so they look good in league. It's kind of like Turkey's issue with producing decent outsides/opposites (but Turkey's problem is much more serious lol)

I just don't think a team has a more solid group of 3 middles in the world right now. I think Italy, Serbia and Turkey all have three solid options, but I think in terms of athleticism, the USA's three are truly world class. All three can hit over the top of most teams blocks.
