in 17 open, i think the clear favorite to win it all is Bay to Bay. best front court in terms of blocking and attacking in the nation at that level and they really dominated every tournament they've been to this year. the emergence of Moses Wagner, along with the upgrades at middle, are helping them tremendously. If BaytoBay doesn’t take 1st, thatd be a huge suprise to everyone. They are far better than any team in that age group (like I said before everyone saw them). MVVC might contend but they have basically lost everytime to them. Next year, i fully expect MB surf and BaytoBay to be competing. The only flaw I can see with B2B 17s is that... there setter isn’t quite there yet. Pretty sure he is new but if you have hitters like that... it won’t matter too much. But even with there mediocre open setter, they are just far better 16s is Balboa I believe?

Would anyone know why the Chicago and Wisconson teams didn't go to the SoCal Cup Showcase? I saw that they were initially on the list and then they all dropped. Is it because they decided to go to the tournament at the Navy Pier? I'm guessing that would help their BJNC seeding? Outside of the St. Louis tournament this year they don't seem to play anyone else outside their region. To register for that event was relatively exclusive and hard to get into it. Plus Chicago teams are still in High School season now so they cannot have full teams available since it was a none qualifier. Only clubs that should have gone but obviously didn't would be Milwaukee Sting, MVC, and Academy out of Indy. Plus, California teams did not attend any other qualifier besides SCVA and that was during the High School season for Indiana and Illinois. Wisconsin plays in the fall so that is why those teams got to go to that qualifier. Usually you will see west coast teams in the Winter Champs as well as some in Dennis Lafata. Just a weird season.

Bay to Bay 18-1 got an open AT Large bid. surprising since they have a really talented roster, but they havent done well at bid tournaments this year. B2B 18-1s has a talented roster? Like who? They have 3 notable players in McFall, Liu, and Collins. Maybe... Olsson? There oppo is too small compete in gold bracket, and there OH1 is too small and simply isn’t athletic enough. There roster is average for an open team. NorCal 18s showed to be pretty weak, PacRim looked solid and might make gold but unlikely. 18s will be Socal teams and 352, maybe throw in Vanguard and AZ Fear into the mix and you got yourself your gold bracket. But B2B... I think there alot more talented rosters out there. I reckon that there 17s team can beat the 18s with ease This is my guess on medalists Rockstar, Balboa, 352 and MB Surf in that order on paper they have a good roster with luke, will sadler, markus, robin, and ryan. i honestly think they're and open caliber team. it just caught me off guard since luke and markus are both BYNNT members

Will Sadler is mediocre at best. They just... never perform at bid tournaments. They are deserving of the bid forsure... considering that MVVC earned an open bid, B2B has no excuse as they are far above MVVC this year

I find it quite surprising because there are more talented middles in the region and even in his own club. Tall middle on 17-1s for obvious reasons, Christopher Hersh for obvious reasons, and that other Middle on mvvc looks solid aswell

Hersh is great but yes it was a surprise pick. I reckon it is because of his coachability as he went from the MVVC 16-3s (hence him moving to BaytoBay 16-2s) to getting on the BaytoBay 16-1s for the summer and staying with them within a year and ended up committing to USC. Kid has potential and coaches see something we can’t

I remember him being on the 16-2 team, but was surprised when he got moved up to the 16-1 team for the summer. Him and Niall Finnegan i believe both got moved up.

I would agree that being coachable is a factor in selecting players for a team. In this case though, I believe many players have gone from twos teams to 1s teams to college in dominant fashion. So im not sold on olsson being the right pick

Is AZ Fear 17 USA an intentional attempt to medal, by dropping down from Open or are they just not very good? 949,SG Elite,SMBC in USA is about right. Fear is a *little* of both - they fared very poorly at Florida Fest in open, so opted to play USA in Vegas - where they won gold in USA. IMO they absolutely tanked on entrance in Vegas, and were very mis-seeded as a 4th in pool. But - they won it. There strength is their setter, who's legit - I have heard he's got a non-scholly spot at GCU, so make of that what you will. At the SCC Showcase, they played open (along with the others you mention), and were moderately competitive. All four of those teams could finish in the mid/high teens in open, but all would have to get extremely lucky to finish top 10 - good skill, but undersized overall, save SMBC's OH1.

Anyone know any wave times yet for the individual waves? Would have thought we would have heard something by now being a week out!
Side note: Academy Pre National had some great matchup between USA divisions! The only open matches that I saw on AES were the 14s power pools and the match between Academy 16 Adidas and Cinci Attack where Academy won. Maybe a match or two in 15s were open level.
