Dont lose to Brazil next time 😌 I mean it’s unfortunate for Brazil too that they have to play Russia when Russia was literally points away from finishing first in the pool….. Pablo would rank Russia #1 in the pool... by a decent margin. B was tight! |

Sorry if this has been discussed, haven’t gone through 91 pages. Wasn’t Italy second in pool B? And if so, why are they playing Serbia who was second in A?

And if so, why are they playing Serbia who was second in A? the 2/3 matchups are drawn randomly. this time is just so happened that it's 2A vs 2B and 3A vs 3B. This is done so teams don't throw matches during pool play to getting an easier path. |

I mean it's not out of the question...based on level of play at the Olympics, I think ROC has a good shot against Brazil, but Serbia historically has had the upper hand against Italy and I'm not sure the Italians have shown a consistently high enough level yet to beat them. Italy over Serbia seems the most unlikely, but could happen. |

Italy over Serbia seems the most unlikely, but could happen. I’m really nervous. I hate that we drew Italy. Like we’ve beat them so many times in a row they are probably super motivated for revenge and this would be the perfect time to get a statement win against Serbia…. I swear to god if Egonu decides to wake up and actually be good this match I’m going to be highly annoyed. |

They haven’t ever leaned on her THIS hard. In the 3 friendlies it was ALL Tijana. A little help from others would be nice but it comes down to Boskovic and if the Serbian serving and block touches can get Boskovic more chances in transition. That’s how they win matches is using their tough serving and great blocking to get her more swings in trans. Italy needs Egonu to play better than Riley Zuhn and Malinov to play better than Ashley shook |

I will officially be staying up most of the night to watch all the quarterfinal matches. I'll be taking naps in between the later ones because I HAVE to watch SRB vs. ITA.
I predict the following:
Turkey win over Korea.
Korea is a pretty solid defensive team so that makes this match up interesting but I have to give it to Turkey, who I've been rooting for since 2018. KYK is amazing but can she get this done for Korea by herself? I think not. Also I totally stan Zehra and Eda, who are my favs.
USA win over Dominicana.
I hate that this match up happened but I have to give the USA the credit. They have upped their level of play significantly at the end of pool play and they did it with only 10 players. I still think Thompson and Poulter ought to rest for this match, as the team can hopefully get it done without them.
Italy wins over Serbia. (Sorry @madden54 😘)
I think Egonu lights it up. It may all come down to which team's Outside Hitters are contributing. Italy has the better libero and probably the better MB pair but by a slight margin. At setter is Italia's achilles heel. Will Malinov/Orro show up?
ROC win over Brazil.
I would not have typed that sentence even two weeks ago, lol. This match might be too close to call and should be an exciting end to the evening/morning. Brazil usually plays better defense but Podkopaeva has been STUNNING in this tournament.
I'm excited to see how it all shakes out. There were two pretty massive upsets in the men's quarterfinals last night.
Who are you picks/favs to advance to the medal rounds?

I disagree on the Serbia-Italy call, though I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Italy won, but other than that I'm a Pool B homer too.

Also, it's looking like the Semi Finals will be at 12AM and 8AM EDT on the men's side. Will it be the same for the women I wonder?
