I just saw that Argentina has gone 5 sets in three of their four matches - I guess we found the DR of the men's side

Iakovlev is so damn good, imagine what he’d look like right now if he didn’t have to take time off for the injury.

So any French victory turns US/Argentina into a play-in match for the QFs, right? By my calculations yes Rank Matches Won Points Set Ratio Point Ratio 1 ROC 3 9 4.500 1.102 2 Brazil 3 8 1.500 1.057 3 USA 2 6 1.142 1.083 4 Argentina 2 5 0.900 1.010 5 France 1 4 0.833 1.008 6 Tunisia 0 1 0.250 0.782

So any French victory turns US/Argentina into a play-in match for the QFs, right? Not quite. The only way 100% guarantee that is French to win both games OR take 4 points in these next 2 matches. One example: If France wins in 5, loses in 3/4 tomorrow, and USA lost in 5 to Argentina, USA would still be ahead. If France wins in 3/4, loses in 3/4 tomorrow, there is still a scenario where Argentina 3-2 will put both USA/Argentina in.

They could get swept next match, Argentina beats USA in 5, but USA would be ahead of France in set ratio in that scenario. They would both be 2-3 with 7 points. USA would have 10:10 set ratio France would have 8:9 set ratio

If France takes at least two sets here, Brazil can throw the match against France and guarantee that France qualifies and guarantee that USA/Argentina is a winner-take-all.
You'd think that Barnett and Sundy might have drawn up that scenario given the history, but they don't even know who has advanced already from Pool A and Pool B.
Pool A is 3/4 decided. Iran-Japan winner moves on. The loser does not. It's that simple. Pool B is 2/4 decided. ROC/BRA move on, USA/ARG winner moves on. France or the USA/ARG loser moves on.

Too much math for this early in the morning 🥴 This is fun math! It's not as hard as calculating when and where two trains will meet if one leaves Canada at 1020am travelling 80mph and the other leaves Florida at 8am travelling 150mph.. those are annoying! This is volleyball math!

It’s actually crazy how Russia could be even better if Kliuka turned up the heat.
France still fighting though!

Guys, are we rooting for France or the ROC here? Anyone who wants USA to advance should be rooting heavily for Russia. Period. Advancing to the QF's is the most important aspect first rather than worrying about potential crossover matches or winning the pool. You never want to be in a winner-take all match with a team who is all over the place (Argentina).
