http://instagr.am/p/CSHQe05H34q If there is one thing that hurts about Italy losing, it's the loss of Juantorena. Such an amazing talent that really lifted the Italian national team to levels they'd fallen from. Love that he's passing the torch to the future. A remarkable teammate. If I’m not mistaken, I believe I saw a photo of Michieletto as a child with Juantorena, side by side with this photo. Ngl, I shed a tear 😢. Oh no!! Between this and Ishikawa, I really am gonna cry 😭

Between this and Ishikawa, I really am gonna cry 😭 So as I think Michiletto is a Trento region schoolboy and brought up through the Trentino Youth VB like Gianelli, there was a period for 4-5 years Osmani and Trentino had a glorious run together in the A1. So this storyline is most likely true and really cool. Anyways....i so wish we were still in the mix but it really has been a thrilling Olympics for VB overall. On a side not. In 3 years with new middles and our pins and setter in their prime I give the USA an even better chance to medal when I think of the changeover in many programs. Oh yeah....Slovenia makes Paris. I know that makes someone happy here

I know that makes someone happy here I'm also optimistic. Out guys just have to stay healthy. I think this early elimination is just the shake up the team needed. I do want to see some vets retire. It's beyond time (Holt, Smith, K. Shoji and Watten for sure). I also want Slovenia to make the cut but at the expense of which other CEV team though? Oh wait....France is already qualified as hosts. Dope! That means we could see 5-6 CEV teams in Paris. Woof. I wonder how the qualification process will all shake out. Lol...I'm always looking a year or two ahead here on VT. 🤷🏻♂️😉

Have France or Argentina ever won an Olympic medal? Argentina has a bronze medal from Seoul 1988. Conte's father was part of the roster.

So just got around to watching the Poland-France QF. Incredible from the French! Allez Les Bleus! 🇫🇷 Died when Coach Tillie dove to dig a ball at 7-12 in the fifth 🤣🤣🤣 He still got it! Lmao best coach moment since the Dutch coach’s acrobatics at VNL
Sad for Poland and Kurek. The way he was crying at the end of the match 🥺Does this mean Heynen is fired?! World Championships is already next year. Hope they can regroup. They need a more elite setter. Probably also shouldn’t start Kubiak with Leon.

Wow, just got done watching all the QF matches. Definitely didn't see those last 2 coming. France as down and out it seemed early in this Olympics, but they've somehow found their chemisty. And who woulda thought Argentina, but they are also playing extremely well. And even the 1st 2, even though they were 3-0, well played, fun volleyball to watch. I do kinda feel bad for Japan though, no crowd when I still think they realistically had a good shot at a medal, and if they had that home crowd, I think that coulda propelled them past Brazil.

It's so sad to think that this olympic is probably the last dance for many great players in the game.
USA: Smith, Holt, Anderson ITA: Juantorena, Zaytsev, Colaci BRA: Bruno, Lucas, Wallace, Mauricio POL: Kurek, Kubiak, Nowakowski RUS: Mikhaylov, Volvich FRA: Toniutti, Tille ARG: De Cecco, Conte CAN: Perrin, Bann, Vigrass IRI: Marouf
The golden generation of setter and opposite will come to an end soon. T_T I'm not so sure on everyone but just my thought. Some of them might be still in PARIS 2024 but not at the level they were.

Bumping for the semifinal matches.
Brazil vs. ROC at 12:00 AM Eastern France vs. Argentina at 8:00 AM Eastern
Pretty big time gap between the matches, but at least I’ll be able to sleep! Should be an exciting set of rematches.

That was a monster match with some serious bouncing of balls throughout, including more than a few off heads. No matter how many dents in the floor Leon cratered, the French always had an answer from just about any attacker they went to. The coach's impromptu dive was impressive.

That should be an entertaining match as well as Brazil/ROC.

I think just as the era of extremely tall slower middles is changing to shorter, faster, more athletic middles. With speed offenses beginning to dominate, you gotta be able to read and close that seam.
