Am I the only one who hopes the USA lose? Not badly or in straight sets, of couse.
I think it'll do more good than harm. Force the team to train harder leading up to the start of the O games, and perhaps force the staff to come up with some tactical options.
I think both teams play their starters in set 1, then make/try some tactical subs in later sets. I think we are capable of doing this and beating China and winning the Olympics.
I love the optimism.

I too think that the USA would learn more from a loss here. Alas, we will see which team wants it more. I am curious if CHN will really play tough or just go through the motions. Probably the latter. I wonder if they will still push the USA in that case. Actually come to think, I think China will start all their best players agaist the US. They might as well throw their best against the US to see how they do against another top team. They can gauge how they do themselves. Lang Ping can run the risk of the US learning their strategies, since they aren't going to the final anyway. They might as well use the opportunity to benchmark themselves against the US. well I wouldn't be so sure about that but I'm 100% sure it would be a serious game otherwise there's no point of moving the A-team around and risking covid-related problems.

I would just like JLP to know, wherever she is living her best life with a group of talented players under her supervision, that I'm waking up early to watch this match, so no pressure to put her A-team on the court... But also, put the best players on the court, please. 😊

I just finished watching the China-Russia match and had a couple observations:
1) Russia's short serve was causing China problems in the first 2 sets. 2) China's #12 Li Yingying has a nasty, sharp cross-court shot. 3) Fedorotseva was going right over Ding Xia when both were front row. 4) Russia lost a lot of points on overpasses in the first 2 sets. 5) I felt like China could run their offense faster.

2 - left-handed hitting from the left (in addition to her excellent technique) gives her those angles. Now that I think of it it's kind of like Goncharova except the latter hits from 2.
3 - that girl has insane jump and can regularly hit over 300. both Jenny and Zhu were full of praise for her after the match. Jenny said "thank god Yan Ni blocked her a few times, otherwise we'd be in trouble".

I would like to see from China Zhu/Li Yan/Yuan Ding/Gong Wang
Zhang/Yao for double sub when appropriate.

I think it’s funny how everyone thinks whatever Lang Ping does is a genius and tactical decision no matter what the outcome is and on the other side whatever Karch does is stupid. This narrative has been going on for years.

This narrative has been going on for years. I think that's because we've seen the decisions that JLP make pay off in the long run (04-08 quad with USA, 12-16 quad with CHN), so it doesn't take much to believe that she has a plan in place for the end goal, regardless of how her team might perform in certain competitions. Karch hasn't shown that yet.

So, the way I see it, I...don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but don't get too giddy if US beats China tomorrow. US defeated China in the VNL before only for China to give a 3-0 smackdown on the US at the World Cup. There it is again. Lol

In the World Championship in 2018, China sent their starting players to play against US in two matches, even if they could have actually rested some of them for one of those matches since they already gotten into the second round by then. So I don't think Lang Ping will just let the B players play against the US.

I think there’s a chance we could see the perceived non-starters get their shot. (Hancock, Hill, Krob? MBH?, Foluke/Washington) if that makes sense

So I don't think Lang Ping will just let the B players play against the US. Nope, there was no guarantee beforehand that China would have advanced in either of the matches they played against usa. In the first match it was 6-1 China Russia and 7-0 Italy and usa. Lang Ping isn't gonna risk Italy losing to Russia and going home early. The second match was the first of the final six.
