Who is she getting dumped for…Australia doesn’t have that many options I mean, this is a team that got Silver. Lets be fair, sure it wasn't the BIGGEST upset of the tournament, but Canada seemed the more likely team to get to the final. But agree that it definitely wasn't their best match by far. I had forgotten that both Taliqua and Mariafe played in the Rio Olympics with different partners. There’s really no one that would be an upgrade for either at this point. Hard to see them breaking up after one subpar game. They’re both relatively young and seemingly getting better each year.

For those unable to watch the medal ceremony, guest2 was right, Artacho dumped on the spot and pushed off the podium step! Incredible scenes! 😏 Seriously?

I'm extremely happy for April, she played well and served amazingly. Even though I am not really a fan of Alix the ATeam were of course playing at another level. I thought that we would at least see a more even game but unfortunately it was pretty boring of a gold medal match. Anyway, congrats to the Aussies on their Silver I didn't think they would win the gold but I did think they would have at least caused them a bit more trouble.

Serve/Pass. No need to complicate things. Stellar performance from April and Alix. Yeah, more or less. The Aussies serve tough and needed some serving magic to win this one. They tried to move the US around, not a bad strategy. April was looking pretty fagged at the end, But the A's ruled in their last two matches.

Not particularly an A Team fan but found myself really wanting them, and particularly April, to win. Just felt so happy for her. Minor quibble - their point celebration/hug always kind of pulls me out of the intensity of the match, like there's something additional/more than usual going on there, along the lines of, it's important for us to reaffirm our emotional support for each other as teammates. Just seems out of the norm to me. Love CAN 2's celebration, for example, where it feels more straightforward, like 'Yeah, great play!...Let's keep this going.' It continues rather than detours from the competitive excitement of the match, for me anyway.

That reminds me, I finally figured out the ATeam’s secret. They’ve been going around the net on side changes all quad long. Once the pandemic hit the rest of the teams had to figure out how to do it too, but it proved to be too much of an adjustment. The ATeam was three years ahead of the game!

Love how Aprils first final ended with her missing a serve and this final ends with a missed giving her a gold medal...full circle moment.
