Section VI will be interesting this year for multiple reasons: 1.) Tom Weislo retired from Cansisus and Trevor Gooch enters. Interesting to see what happens and if the program remains highly competitive. 2.) For Class A: Frontier is the pre season favorite due to the departure of a good amount of Orchard Park and Clarence seniors. But I wouldn’t count both teams out of the running yet. This is still the hardest division to get out of but now the field got easier with Hudson Harris and those group of guys from OP gone. Watch out for Johnathon Bly tho from Clarence if he’s staying because him and the Libero from Orchard Park are my top selection for the Mr All WNY. 3. For Class B: It’s really up for grabs in honest opinion. Grand Island could begin regression because without Weiberg and Cramer, it’s gonna be harder now to advance so the younger guys will have to step up. Same for West Seneca East and with Eden, rebuilding is the more realistic objective. Eden can win the division but to win sectionals will require a lot of luck.

Also, I saw Bly play for Niagara Frontier a couple of times this year. I completely agree with your assessment. He is ridiculous. Maybe not super tall, but he was the most talented, effective player in almost every match I saw him play in.

Section 11 will be interesting this year. You could make a strong case that two class B schools will be the strongest two teams on Long Island: Eastport South Manor (ESM) and Westhampton Beach. With ESM being the No. 1 preseason ranked and most talented team by far. They return every starter (OH: Jake Deslauriers, OH: Mark Porcelli, MB: Danny Teidemann, MB: Hank Foglia, S/RS: Christian Herr and S/RS Ayden Deslauriers) from last year's Section 11 champion team, plus they add a transfer MB who had to sit out last year due to transfer rules. Westhampton Beach return, Daniel Haber, who is quite possibly the best and most talented player on Long Island. But I would be shocked if ESM did not win class B as well as the Long Island Championship. For class A, it is a little harder to assess. Smithtown West is probably the favorite. They won class A county championship last year and return their best player, Dan Shanley. However, they lost some key players on that team to graduation. They always have a strong pool of club players, so if they can fill some key holes: setter, middle, libero, they will probably be favorite to win again this year. However, Connetquot is loaded with talent. They have quite a few ACAD 17 Red players on that team. They may be the most talented team in Class A, but we will see if they can put it together. Others to consider: Sachem North (because they are Sachem North), Northport, and Lindenhurst, though each of them either have significant holes or lost a lot of talent to graduation. Should be a lot of fun! Cant wait.

Section V will be a tight race of familiar faces in class A. Victor, McQuaid, Fairport, and Penfield are all strong. Class B Spencerport has already beaten Penfield and Fairport. They looked prime to roll through class B and repeat.

Any insight on Section V teams this year? Any surprises out of LI or Buffalo so far? Who's better this year Shen or CNS? Section XI (Suffolk County, Long Island) appears to be going about as predicted so far. The one exception might be the surprise undefeated season by Northport so far (8-0). They have some good talent and some big wins over Smithtown West, Connetquot, and Sachem North. They have a real test this Thursday against undefeated ESM. ESM (8-0) is rolling through everyone so far. They have only dropped one set the entire season, so that should be a good battle on Thursday. Besides Northport surprise, Division 1 still looks like its Smithtown West's to lose. On the season, and at the weekend tournaments, they consistently look the strongest, most fearless, and most talented team in Division 1. Northport, Connetquot, or maybe Sachem North might have something to say about it, but It will probably be Smithtown West repeated as Section XI champs again this year. In Division 2, ESM seems like the massive favorite. They appear, right now at least, to be the best team on Long Island regardless of school size. They are 8-0 and have not dropped a set since the first match of the season vs. Sachem North. They beat their rival and county finalist last season Westhampton Beach in 3 last week. They do have some tough matches coming up in the next three weeks (Northport, Smithtown West, and Connetquot) that will test them, but they seem to have no. 1 seed for division 2 county playoff well intact and to be bound for the inevitable rematch vs. Westhampton beach in the county final.

Some really good matchups last night in Section XI: Smithtown West defeated Westhampton Beach in 5 sets. Smithtown West continues to be the favorite to win Division I.
The biggest match of the night was a battle of the two undefeated teams left in Section XI: Northport (8-0) vs ESM (8-0). ESM won the first set 25-10, then 25-20, 25-23 to win 3-0. ESM continues to prove they are the class of Long Island, even though they are division II. They have not lost a set since the first match of the season vs. Sachem North. They face Smithtown West next week which will probably be their toughest test to date.
Current Standings ESM 9-0 Northport 8-1 Connectquot 7-2 Smithtown West 7-2 Westhampton Beach 5-3 Lindenhurst 5-3

The much anticipated battle of ESM vs Smithtown West happened last night. It ended up being much less of a battle than anticipated. ESM won in straight sets (25-21, 25-12, 25-19). They seem to be on another level than everyone else in Section XI. They have not dropped a set since the first match of the season vs. Sachem North. They have won 31 straight sets!
Current Standings ESM 11-0 Northport 9-1 Connectquot 10-2 Smithtown West 7-3 Bay Shore 7-3 Lindenhurst 7-3 Smithtown East 7-4 Westhampton 5-5
