What a bummer, this was fun to follow and read the (mostly) friendly banter.

Um.
Well, perhaps needless to say, but the 2021 Fantasy Season has been cancelled. I’m a bit dumbfounded (well, kind of) at what has occurred in the last 48 hours, and I wish posters had the maturity to let us/me know they disliked a rule change instead of just quitting, but overall, I suppose I agree with the sentiment that the toll of this league just isn’t worth it anymore.
Thanks to those who were positive participants, and I’m sorry it ended this way.

Thanks to those who were positive participants, and I’m sorry it ended this way. If you're interested in hosting next season's league I will help you in an admin role. We can mark the asterisk spring season and this as victims of fatigue and overload. A full season off until next season's could reenergize participants.

I wish posters had the maturity to let us/me know they disliked a rule change instead of just quitting Thanks to those who were positive participants, and I’m sorry it ended this way. I dislike this comment about maturity, though I am not sure if it refers to avid, me, ay, and/or vup in any combination, or altogether. The experience of discussing rules/ideas/anything with shhhhhhhh has not been a positive or constructive one in most scenarios. I also dislike that the inferred here is that those participants quit exclusively due to a rule change, there was a leadup to this point. There was an unfriendly environment with him specifically, but others have expressed to me in messages being uncomfortable and felt the treatment was rude. In my case - I actually saw resigning from the league as *more* appropriate/mature than just not participating or sending in any rosters. (also, true I could have let YOU know, but your pm to me said 'we', and I was busy with Rivera's retirement party this weekend, so it was not of my concern immediately really to give reason until today, and I think it's better publicly). As for immature, specifically the petty comments from an admin to ay (I.E Marina Markova???) is just completely uncalled for. It makes his ultimate post about ay look even worse. Markova ended up being a VERY valuable fantasy player for ironic measures. The rudeness was also emphasized when madden attempted to quit early on. There was not much drama in the Fantasy League last year except maybe an incident or two outside of anything that involved shhhhhhhh. He was the common link there, and it seems to be here. I don't think this can be described as people quitting over one simple rule change, though this one was extremely drastic with no intention except to shake up the standings. That defeats the purpose of a competitive league, this has already been covered by vup. But again -- people are intimidated or don't want to get into a drama war, that is the precedent that has been set with these issues. There were a few memes -- trying to contest it in a funny way, but clearly, there was going to be opposition to it. When I brought up the add/drop deadline (which even you were unaware of had changed despite the wording in the rules being exactly the same to a prior year) it was again a petty response about why would I even do that when it puts me at a competitive disadvantage for pointing out a loophole that didn't used to exist. I thought this was the right thing to do - to have everyone on the same page of a deadline not stated with a time and date. A poster had asked about this in a admin PM and was given a rude response to read the rules that weren't explicitly clear. I'm sadly disappointed it all had to go down like this -- but it was unfortunately predictable and I am not at all dumbfounded. I was told in the beginning by shhhhhh just before the league started you weren't responding to him and he might have to run the league alone (true or not, it is what he said he wanted to do originally last year). There were concerns about him running the league from prior participants and admins last year and they had concerns going into this year. I advised him that there were many people willing to help -- specifically eazy vup and Fight On! even just to help reduce workload even without rules input if it mattered that much to him, and he rejected that help at all times. It was unfortunate. There is a suspicion there was a sort of power trip here and even was overtly expressed to me to design things to make it 'harder' on the 'vets' and 'curb' our arrogance that seems in line with that suspicion. With drastic changes, who knows what 'ever the hell they want to do' would be the next ruling to 'shake up the standings' for no apparent reason? I don't mean to start this into a mess, and I hope this discussion can continue as reasonable, but this is a snapshot of some of the complaints/concerns/bigger themes of the season that I think should be known, and many were intimidated to share their opinions on the board. That should never have to happen. I also find the 'positive participants' comment a little strange, who wasn't a positive participant here? I thought this was an excellent group. Competitive and active.

On a positive note, I really thought per-set scoring was awesome, but most specifically for rewarding setters. There still was enough 'randomness' and 5-setters to not make it just completely predictable, but it did give much better value to players who ALWAYS sweep. And dividing by sets played *might* be more fair in most scenarios, I would be interested to hear feedback as that was a contested topic in the spring when it was divided by match.

I also think the per set allowed starters to miss matches/sets and it not adversely affect you.

I loved how not playing in a set didn't count against you when someone like Rettke doesn't play in a few sets against weak teams. I think per-set vs per-match made the winner less random and more 'skill' in having a good team, so I personally prefer per-match because I learned to embrace the randomness last year. Per-Set scoring made all the matches this year much closer I thought, it seemed like a lot more 3-2 vs last year was a lot more 4-1. However, it was really frustrating that if I didn't carefully check 'sets played' stat sometime my stats were way off. Last year we didn't have to worry about tracking that nearly as much, but that's controllable and definitely my fault. Just my 2cents.
