I was gonna make a joke and ask how many sets will China drop this tournament, because in a way they remind me of 2008 Brazil when they didn't drop a set until the gold medal match.
The replay should make for some good entertainment with my morning coffee. Pool B just got a helluva lot more interesting.

I'm with many of the other posters.... I'm not sure what I just watched. Turkey did play very well, but damn China was in the Sh*tter the entire match. Ball control was horrible, and their hitters were tentative. One area that was very impressive for Turkey was their block. Not only the block points, but they were getting their hands on EVERYTHING! Which does kinda speak to China's ball control. Another part was their defense. Turkish team chased down a few shanked balls and kept it in play. They did not want to let anything drop…except for the tips in Set 1.

Heck, maybe Turkey is now the favorite to win gold now. Sounds crazy, but after today's result, you never know they just might. its turkey. there's not a more unstable team in the olympics than them.

they would have taken back Maja if she wanted to stay. From my understanding Gio wanted to build for the future again, not the first time he replaced a world-class player with a youngster. Think Sheilla > Sloetjes > Haak 3 times in Opp spot lmao He did not have an option. Maja signed with Eczacıbaşı early on.

Right. Let's pump the breaks people. Turkey deserves all the credit for their win last night. But, it's not like Turkey isn't known for very high variances in their level of play. I do not see them sustaining this level. All of them really. They'll have to lean on Karakurt more when the OH's can't produce and we'll see what happens then. Next up for Turkey is Italy. That's going to be an interesting match because both teams OH's exceeded expectations in Match 1.

Agree with this. Turkey can be inconsistent. Their intense emotional play also can be a help and a hinderence depending on the circumstances. The other major problem is that they are not very deep at the outside hitter position.

They’ve also proved to be very dangerous. They don’t have to win their pool, but they have to win the matches that matter.

Just opened the stats. Zhu has 3 kills and hit zero. That’s amazing. She’s so consistent usually a bad day for her is 12 kills hitting mid/high .200s. Turkey hitting out of their minds + Zhu tanking = China freak out?
