I still cannot believe how USA beat this same Russian team a month ago with Hill at libero along with Krob and Drews playing the entire match. Russia has completely upped their game and gonch said she’s still a top 5 opp in the world

She has the IT factor and the smarts....she will do well at the international level That sounds like a good description of Carlini. So, clearly, if Karch is still coach Lilley will not be selected. HAHAHA facts......It crazy to me those two have leadership qualities you can't teach....they're able to lead and pull their team and get after their teammates....KK is not a fan of it....he wants to be the leader they look up too imho

I've never seen Goncharova play right back defense that good. She hasn't been able to swing like that against a strong team in an international tournament in some time. That's the most consistent I've seen Voronkova with her serve as well. Startseva gave her hitters the sets they wanted. They really did play like the Russia of ye golden age. That wasn't VNL Russia out there. But we most definitely were VNL USA -- playing like we'd already secured the bag.

In reading this thread, I most certainly will have to find the replay. Without seeing it, it sounds like the same old song the team has been singing since 2019, and not Kumbaya. Larson and KRob cannot terminate, but at least one has to be on the floor for passing. If MBH isn't on, this team is practically screwed in terms of advancing to a gold medal match. Setting is also inconsistent, and that would still be true if Carlini were there. Either they start to up their play in a way they have rarely shown in 2 years...or, we start planning for Paris and hoping that Parsons and Plummer are able to contribute. Carlini wasn’t inconsistent. She also believed that she was born for this moment. We currently do not have that kind of charisma and belief with Poulter or Hancock. Carlini was and will always be the correct choice to set this team. I still don’t understand why this is hard for people to understand. The only complaint Carlini got was that she could not set the middle which was untrue and clearly doesn’t matter since we haven’t been setting them in these games anyway. The setter that connected well with the pins and especially Drews would be helpful right now but alas…

to be fair idk what's up with Poulter. She's really talented but Tokyo has been a pretty brutal showing for her. She just really don’t have the “big game” experience. Hopefully she can get it together but I have always said that she tends to regress. She did it a lot in her pro season as well. She is either really good or really bad. Been screaming this for a year

I still think US has some fight left. Tactically, it’s interesting though - esp since I think Hill and Bartsch-Hackley probably play the fast offense best (with their club setters anyway). The setters. Justice for Carlini? Don’t think so! Hancock is very good if she starts and gets that served warmed up. It’s not really a benefit for her to expect to rip it cold off the bench. I think she sets the middles they best, but something is up with them. All setters are similar in that they benefit from having a big terminating opposite. But a lot of teams have stepped it up for the Olympics, hopefully the US has not plateaued. Give it up. Hancock is not Olympic level material.

Aside from losing your best scorer in the Olympics...if JT misses a few matches you lose the typically effective complementary pieces of JT/Drews who can sub in for each other when one is struggling.
If you get one of those "Bad" Annie matches...what is the play? Is it moving MBH to opposite and using either Hill or *gulp* KRob at OH? I think you'd have to go to Hill there.
I don't think you can win with both KRob and Larson at OH. So, naturally, Karch would go with KRob.

Only before play starts apparently.
