You conveniently left out the details of nearly blowing a 2-0 lead to Turkey (barely scraping by), then show up the next match and look like a JV team. We beat an absolutely hobbled China? yay. Better than a loss for sure, but I'm not chilling the Veuve. I still don't understand all of these comments. We react during the match and then take stock of the trajectory. As of right now, the USA is trending down - I'd love to hear any argument otherwise. Can they right the ship tonight? Of course they can, can they still win gold? Yup, and everyone in this thread hopes they do, but enough with "why can't you all just be happy we won?" or "what did you expect? TOTAL PERFECTION?" comments. Let me ask you this: has the setting improved over the course of the tournament? The LS offense? Passing? Blocking? or have all of those aspects gotten worse from what we've seen so far? You don't really need stats, just a functioning pair of eyeballs. The best 12 players in the gym are not on this roster. Wait, is this what you really meant to say? It seems a bit extreme. |

I don’t know a USA fan that would have expected to be 4-0 at this point. Hoped? Yes. Expected? I think 3-1 is in line with expectations and yes, ANYONE should take that. Now, when you include that USA scored just 51 points against Russia, that 3-1 is much much more concerning rather than simply being content with results so far. The only thing that matters is USA is into the Quarterfinals. Anything can happen now. The USA women’s team is doing fine. It’s the men that utterly collapsed. All that matters is being the team most capable of stringing together three wins in a row, in any fashion, doesn’t matter how. I’d say the USA women are still right there at the top. I don’t think any of the top 5-6 squads should be counted out, especially with spoiler China out of commission. This is anyone’s Olympics to steal at this point. You can make a case for any of Italy, USA, Serbia, Brazil, Russia, and Turkey to have the just one stellar match necessary to eliminate a supposed front runner from that grouping. I’m loving this. The knockouts are going to be unpredictable, exciting, and hopefully full of shocks. Won’t be surprised by outcome in knockouts, I’m with you, it’s exciting |

Question, if someone told you ten days ago we’d be 3-1 with matches against China, Russia and Turkey would you have taken it? Expected to be 4-0? I don’t know a USA fan that would have expected to be 4-0 at this point. Hoped? Yes. Expected? I think 3-1 is in line with expectations and yes, ANYONE should take that. Now, when you include that USA scored just 51 points against Russia, that 3-1 is much much more concerning rather than simply being content with results so far. The only thing that matters is USA is into the Quarterfinals. Anything can happen now. And China dismantled Italy and they scored only 65? ANYTHING can happen. I’ve seen closer sweeps then some 5 set matches. would you say a 25-23 17-25 15-25 19-25 match is closer than 25-23 26-24 25-22 match just because in the first example one team took a set |
