It absolutely does. They could end up anywhere from 1st, 3rd or 4th in the pool. 2nd won't happen because ROC is already ahead of USA by a wide points W/L ratio. So if USA beats Italy and Turkey beats Russia, the USA takes the top spot. If USA loses to Italy and ROC beats Turkey, then the USA stays in 3rd. If USA loses to Italy and Turkey beats ROC then the USA will be in 4th. USA can be 2nd, but it doesn't matter who is 2nd/3rd because it's a draw. If USA and Russia both sweep, Russia is #1 and USA is #2 (unless USA beat Italy by a ridiculous margin, not happening). If USA sweeps and Russia wins 3-1, USA would own the set ratio over Russia. Set ratio is a step before point ratio in tiebreakers. Just ran through the scenarios. Italy, ROC, USA could all be anywhere from #1 to #4. Turkey could be 2, 3 or 4. |
