Putting this out there now....
someone that knows taylor crabb needs to propose this
if the US wants a chance to medal in 2024, its not Taylor crabb/bourne, its not dalhausser/taylor crabb
its not budinger/ta crabb
not sure if anyone other than me sees the possible pairing but I believe this needs to be done for USA future
in paris they will be 30/33 years old, and in LA they will be 34/37.
andy benesh even looks like a skinnier taller anders mol
coming late to edit.... 8/12/21
id rather see bourne and taylor, but the only reason im saying crabb/ benesh is because i do not think tri wants to be the "blocker" anymore, along with there be no real chance of taylor split blocking

At this point I honestly feel like our best shot is some tall indoor transplant transitioning to beach (how do we summon a Matt Anderson/Ben Path, heck even a Micah Christenson?!??)... although the odds of this are *quite slim*

i think this year will be a break out year for him
he hasnt proven anything domestically... yet
we shall see
I agree that fivb tour is a whole different beast. but benesh is starting to get the attention from some notable people and I believe he will make the turn into the top 10 by the end of the 2022. by the end of 2023, I believe he will be in the top 4.
taylor crabb is clearly our number 1 option, regardless of what people say about tri.
Tri is awesome, but taylor is our ONLY shot at gold. pairing him up with a "blocker" needs to be done by the USAV as soon as possible. dalhausser would be a great option, but by 2024, will a 44 year old phil still be our best option... possibly
but i wouldnt look at any young guy other than benesh. hes got all the tools

taylor crabb is clearly our number 1 option, regardless of what people say about tri. Not sure it's as clear as you make it sound. Tri currently has the highest men's attack % in the olympics. It wasn't Tri with the bad passes in the game they lost either. I don't feel like Taylor/Gibb would have done any better. Taylor makes some more flashy plays, but I feel Tri is better at both serving and attacking. Maybe the US can also develop a team without a traditional fast/small defender. Tri also seems to have gotten better this year and I do wonder how he'd look with a more premier partner. Even though I didn't feel like Jake played great in the last match, I'd still rank him above Trevor

Last Summer, he failed to qualify in all 3 Champions Cups. The year before that he played seven qualifiers and failed to qualify in six of them. Andy had one good finish, a 7th in 2018 that showed promise, and we have all been ignoring the evidence that accumulated both before and after that single good tournament, that Andy just isn't very good. He may be at some point, but historically speaking, its rare for a top player to spend a long period of time at the Q level before achieving high level success. Oh and all these poor finishes happened during a period when men's beach in the US is at its lowest point ever

I think if you watch a match, you’ll understand what I’m talking about and the potential he has. Maybe our opinions differ, but I challenge you to go watch a full match of his within the past 12 months. I believe you’ll have a different view

Tri going back to blocker would be a step back. Tri is a baller as the defender… just my two cents

I believe you’ll have a different view I've watched maybe 7-10 in the past two years and I don't get the hype. With Beranek, who is maybe 6'0 tall and not exactly Jon Stevenson, Benesh was often getting served. At Waupaca, he and Allen got spanked by the Bomgrens after winning game 1. We are going to run out a blocker on the FIVB who can't shut down Brian Bomgren in the twilight of BB's career? In Atlantic City, they played six games against Miller/Tucker and only won 3? Dropped games to Fraser/Beans, Smith/Page etc. I didn't see all those matches, but if we are talking about someone with the potential to compete with Stoyanovsky, he should be destroying teams at that level. Who knows, maybe he and Billy will do well on the AVP and it would be fantastic to see him break out. He seems like a good guy and I like how he has been looking to play a lot the last two years also. But if I had to bet on the next blocker to become a contender to win AVPs - talking about FIVB success with current US bigs is too depressing - I'd bet on James Shaw before Benesh, even with the injury keeping him out until next year.

Only time will tell!
Let’s see in 2023 where benesh and Shaw will lie
You never know, maybe budinger might surprise?
My bets on benesh tho…

I’m not convinced yet that Taylor Crabb can be a consistent medal contender on the world tour. Definitely a solid player that should be in the top 10 and get to another Olympics but can’t see how his offense would put him ahead of guys like Sorum or Wickler.

Bro.. he’s the best the US got It’s been established he’s the piece to build around. Sorum… maybe not yet. But he is same level as wickler already

If Taylor is the better player on the team, not sure how they regularly win medals. I think Guto is a great comparison to show where Taylor stands among defenders on the world tour. Both super small defenders in their late 20s with questionable offense. Over the last 4 years, Guto has played with pretty weak partners (Old Ricardo, Old Pedro, Barbosa, Vitor Felipe, Arthur) and has posted better results than Taylor. Does anyone think Guto is a top backcourt player?

I agree that Taylor is probably the best hope for the US at the moment but expecting him to be a clear medal contender with the right partner isn’t so realistic. Just as a reminder, to date he’s played in close to 40 international events and had 2 medal finishes - and this includes all events (so also some with a more watered down field than the Olympics)

If we take Taylor out of the discussion, we have one dude (Tri) with any FIVB real success, and 75% of that is as a blocker (blocker with Hyden, split with Trevor). Andy seems like a really nice guy, but I would have expected a little bit more out of him this year through the AVPNext's and other stuff he has participated in. I see the "potential" to be a top player is there, but the consistency to medal at an FIVB event is just not there yet, with any partner.
