I'm honestly not sure how the USA beats SRB. I want it to happen, more than anything, I just don't think the USA matches up well against this team. I don't know that anyone CAN slow Bošković down. Terzić did an interview where he spoke ill of USA's fast system and how there were glaring disadvantages to forcing physical, tall players to play so fast. I predict a Serbian block fest, just like in the 2015 World Cup. I don't think either setter we have runs the offense as well as Glass did. USA will have to be in system most of the time to stand a fighting chance and we need a hitter to step up and take out the trash. Will JT/Drews be ready? I do think we will see most of the roster on the the floor at some point. Let's see if your master plan works out Karch. They don't have to slow Boskovic down. They have to slow everyone else down. That means serving tough (which they have) and getting good block touches (which they have) They cannot let either OH have a good day offensively. Ideally, they move the ball around more and make Rasic/Popovic guess... but the middles have been a mess.

The middles being a mess part...the setting has undeniably been better and Haleigh is doing better as a result. Foluke is a slide hitter and has been her whole career. She isn't nearly as good in front of the setter. I'm not sure we're going to get outstanding production from her as compared to Chi that has spent like all of her pro seasons hitting off two feet, especially against Rasic and Popovic. We shall see though, I feel like our coaching staff has been doing good things and making good adjustments throughout these matches so it's interesting.

Neither team is as good as they were in 2016 and honestly Serbia is still mostly a one woman show. A lot depends on how they involve their left sides me thinks.

Another thing to note is Serbia is historically very good at winning 5 set matches when they have to go the distance.

When that one woman is the best player in the world coupled with excellent setting it’s a pretty effective “show” plus lets not like USA was trying to be at all diverse before JT got injured. Does it matter that Serbia relies on Tijana so much when she comes through for them time and time again?

To be fair, our offense has evolved significantly since then.

Terzic has said he prefers the WCH to the Olympics.
They should just sit this one out

I'm not sure the drop off is that substantial. I mean, our opposite situation is 200x better, and JWO > Banwarth. If MBH actually hits like we expect her to (I'm honestly not holding my breath for this tbh), I'd say our lefts are about the same. Glass > Hancock/Poulter, and 2016 Foluke >> 2020 Foluke. I'd take Washington over Adams (and an injured Harmotto).
I agree mostly re: Serbia (although Serbia was really a two woman show in Rio). Boskovic is better than 2016.

Maybe JT can come in at the OH position if someone is struggling, don’t know about her passing🥴 and maybe have JWO play middle back to try to help slow down boskovic?

Things Id like to see: 1- a USA win 2 - Chi play. Best two middle ‘blockers’ is key vs Serbia IMO. 3 - Hill play OH if MBH struggles. She’s fresh 4 - a USA win 5 - continued recovery for Poulter/Thompson allowing a full roster available for a gold medal match 6 - a USA win

Just because the USA's most successful player has been their opposite, doesn't mean they're not trying to be diverse. If anything, this diversity has helped their Opp (now if only it could translate to less MBH errors) Attempts by position USA: Opp-229 (31.8%), OH-343 (47.7%), MB-136 (18.9%), S-11 (1.6%) Serbia: Opp-241 (44.2%), OH-173 (31.5%), MB-117 (21.3%), S-17 (3%) It's a bad thing when Boskovic has a bad day and Serbia has no plan B.... or Serbia doesn't get anything from anyone else (USA has swept a 28-point Boskovic before)

Bosko is better but Branika was a beast in 2016 on the left. She took a ton a swing and scored many many points. That is still a huge loss that may be hard for Serbia to overcome. The US will know where they need to defend and thus defending against two average at best left sides will make things much easier than in 2016. Bosko will get her kills, no doubt. The question is, how do we handle everyone else?

Getting Maja to move means its less likely Rasic is getting the ball. Busa can be decent offensively. They have to be weary of that. Im going to jinx it but Milenkovic is dire. Foluke will have to know when to cheat to Boskovic, she's most likely to get caught out by Maja imo
