I'm not sure this is a huge deal. Rosamaria is playing out of her mind right now. I think Tandara is better OOS but honestly, Fe Garay stats-wise has been killing it plus Brazil's ball control has been good to make up for it. I said this more or less earlier. They have Rosamaria, Natalia, Ana Cristina who they can insert over there and just swing away. This barely changes anything for them. USA vs. BRA final here we go baby!

Shouldn't the team be DQ'd if she has played? When Marion Jones admitted using drugs didn't the whole relay team have to give their medals back? the rule for volleyball as that 2 players must test positive for there to be a DQ. Not true: the penalty’s for one positive test are the same if there are 2 positive tests! And the penalty they choose wasn't the weakest but it also wasnt the most stringent penalty because team is still playing

If Brazil wins a medal, does Tandara also get one? The article makes it sound like she’s been *shipped* back to Brazil immediately.

So its not beyond imagination.

Regardless of whether it will affect Brazil or not, I still find Tandera taking banned substances disappointing. I never knew she would go down to that level. It will all have to come out before making this judgment. I remember when a Romania gymnast was disqualified for using cold medicine with a ban substance. Was totally innocent and a huge mistake by the team doctor but it was banned. And whatever it was is no longer a banned substance. Hopefully with Tandera it was an innocent mistake. I think both statements are pretty naive. It was always an accidental supplement bought or supplied by someone else. "My manager bought me a Starbucks that turned out to be liquid Winstrol". On the other side any sport that doesn't have constant PED stuff happening is generally going to be one where A) PEDs don't convey a huge advantage or B) Athletes generally don't have access to quality PEDs. Saying an athlete sunk so low as to do PEDs is basically saying they did something 60-90 of their sport would do if it helped them win and they knew they wouldn't get caught. For example how many injured athletes, if faced with the following proposition, would say no: "You can use PEDs, you won't be caught, and you will heal in time for the Olympics. If you refuse them, you will miss the games with your injury" Do 10% of athletes choose to miss the Olympics in that scenario? 20%? Because the experience of many sports says most elite athletes, given the chance and when PEDs help, will take them.

I guess its the Brazilian Federation fault. Tandara did her duty and inquired about the use of it. The federation failed her. They didn't do their job.

It is a provisional suspension for potential use of a banned substance. Her back-up sample has not been tested yet. Let's wait before jumping to conclusion.

Just watch how NBC will milk the %*$#tee out of this issue to pump out ratings for the USA vs Brazil finals. They do love their drama and controversies.

Regardless of whether it will affect Brazil or not, I still find Tandera taking banned substances disappointing. I never knew she would go down to that level. These are professional athletes. I really am curious what % of VB players are using PEDs during training and taper off whenever there is an event with Testing. For Track and Field, I'll wager more than 50% of the top 5 in every event and walking chemistry labs. Russia controlled the distribution at the State Lab level. In other countries, it is simply a free market.

Can anyone translate her lawyer post on her Instagram just now "In a letter released by her lawyer on Friday, Tandara Caixeta, who has left the team’s camp and flown home to Brazil, did not explain further but said she had not knowningly taken Ostarina, a drug used by bodybuilders and to improve athletic performance" Ostarina is a steroid medication. Apparently couple of Brazilian athletes have already tested positive with this steroid medication.

In other countries, it is simply a free market. In sports where PEDs provide a big boost, cycling, sprinting, American football, combat sports for example, 50% is probably pretty low. Expecting athletes to have a personality that encompasses: 1) Making every possible sacrifice for their sports in terms of health, dedication etc. and 2) Strategically cheating within their sports, as most athletes are expected to do (denying touches in volleyball, fouling intentionally in basketball, various offenses in combat sports for example) But not Violating often extremely arbitrary - and practically unenforceable - doping rules when obeying those rules is often choosing to fail in their sports seems pretty unrealistic.
