Seriously?! Is anyone who isn't headless seriously thinking that setting was this team's problem? The serve-receive game was where this team lost it. No doubt certain positions could be beefed up, but setter seems to be the least of our concerns. Micah is great. Micah is great yes but he is no longer the irreplaceable player he was. Whether he stays or goes doesn't really matter anymore. Anderson and Sander are the most consistent we have. Ensing and Defalco are the future of the team. Everyone else is REPLACEABLE. Again, I don't mind if Erik Shoji and Christenson leaves or stays. And maybe add Stahl there. But Holt, Kawika, Jaeschke, Muagtutia abd Smith needs to go. Never said he was irreplaceable. But the best setter in the history of the universe would not have dug this team out of its horrible service errors and errant passing.

Like I said, whether he stays or not, it no longer matters for this team. The team only needs Sander and Anderson. Then DeFalco and Ensing for the future. That's it. Micah is good. No question about that. But Bruno is good too. And Brazil failed to win a medal. Marouf is good too. Its not about getting the best setter but getting the best combination of players. Sander and Anderson is the only one from this line up that the team truly needs. I repeat, whether Micah stays or not, it doesn't matter anymore.

I'm interested to see who of the Hawaii boys get left out (including Ma'a). I definitely can see Joe/Gage/Ma'a/Gasman all push for LA or maybe even Paris idk. I think 3 of them make it for sure to LA and one of them being left out. EDIT: Anyone know if Gabi Garcia-Fernandez has dual citizenship? If he does, the US should probably be begging him to switch over. Er, Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens by birth. The question would be whether he would have to switch federations and serve the two year waiting period. Has he competed internationally for Puerto Rico? If not, I don't think he would have to sit out the two year waiting period.

Nobody is mentioning the loss of Russel who is far and away our best OOS hitter and probably one of the top 8 outsides in the world. We medal if he’s healthy. Yes the serving woes need fixing, but at full strength this group is medal worthy

I said if they decide to let go of Christenson, I'm ok with it. If they decide to keep him, I'm still ok with it. In terms of keeping players, I would invest on Ensing and DeFalco. Mostly because of their youth. I would let go of Jaechke, Holt, Smith, Stahl, Kawika and Muagututia. If they decide to keep or to let go of Shoji and Christenson, I don't really mind. In my opinion, Sander, Anderson, DeFalco and Ensing should remain for Paris 2024. Thomas is 28 I think... but he does seem fragile for his age. his injuries probably took a toll on him 😕

In hindsight he should have been brought and worked into 100% by the knockout round.

I am struggling to fathom the opinion that one of the top 3 setters in the world who continues to get better every year is not irreplaceable.

I am struggling to fathom the opinion that one of the top 3 setters in the world who continues to get better every year is not irreplaceable. He's not replaceable. Not even marginally at this point. But I think some posters just love to be loud about their opinions. No use in trying to convince them otherwise.

At this point, Micah Christenson and Erik Shoji are the two players that are by no way replaceable. They are the most consistent, never injured, both top 3 in the world at their positions, both are still getting better.
(I am the biggest Taylor Sander, Aaron Russell, Ben Patch, and Kawika Shoji fanboy you will find outside of their friends and families, but those two guys are the absolutes at this point.)

We are talking about france 2024. Sander and Anderson have been the most consistent. Erik Shoji is 35 by Paris 2024. If we are looking at Paris, then lets get the people that actually been consistent every single game. Sander and Anderson. Christenson is no longer irreplaceable. I'm not campaigning for his departure but whether he stays or go, it doesn't matter anymore. There are quite a few setters that can bring what he brings. Of course Micah is still better than them, but at this point, his relevance in the team is not that impactful anymore. Keep Sander, Anderson, DeFalco and Ensing. It doesn't matter if Erik Shoji, Christenson and Stahl stays or go. But the rest of the squad needs to be replaced.

Why is anyone saying Ensing is irreplaceable? There is a reason Defalco played outside instead of Anderson, and it's because Ensing is replaceable.
I think Patch, if he stays will volleyball at all, will likely outshine Ensing by Paris because he's gotten a clear message that inconsistency is not tolerated. But everyone acknowledges Patch's upside over Ensing.

First of all Micah is top 3 in the world and many feel the best setter in the world. He is irreplaceable and the centerpiece for Paris. Secondly Ensing as a top four piece??? Not a chance. Patch has a way bigger upside- and we have other choices already on the team. Russell is very Anderson like. He can play any pin. Sander and DeFalco. Both excellent in system. Both mediocre out of system. Anderson and Russell both good in or out of system. It’s time to revamp the middles. Time for a new backup setter. Time for a new lib if Shoji wants to leave. If not he’s pretty damn good still. USA is not that far from medaling. But certainly had a rough tournament in Tokyo
