My two favorite schools in the Mountain West are at the top of the standings, as San Jose State won again, and so did New Mexico. At 12-2, I like the Lobos' chances to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2015. I think they only need to win four more matches to finish above .500.

It's not like those first two sets were all those close either.

In other news, there were reports of the AAC trying to poach Colorado State, Air Force, Boise State and San Diego State, but all four are staying.

That's awesome.
I can see bolting for the Big 12, but you'd have to be crazy to hitch your team to the AAC wagon.
The only one that made even a little sense was Air Force, and that's only if Army is doing it too so that the Commander in Chief triplets would all be under one roof.

Yeah, nobody seemed that excited about the prospect. It made even less sense after Boise State and San Diego State reiterated that they were staying. From a personal standpoint, if there were rumors that New Mexico (my other alma mater) was potentially moving to the AAC, I wouldn't be excited.

On the flip side, if/when Boise bolts for the Big 12, would you rather they be replaced with UTEP or NMSU in the Mountain Division, from your Lobo perspective? /those are of course the only two options for MWC expansion west of the central time zone, unless Idaho moves back up to FBS which is unlikely since they are still playing FB in the Kibbie Dome.

For the Lobos specifically? I guess I'd rather have New Mexico State just because they're a natural rival. I haven't thought about it much, though.

I mean it doesn't have to be for the Lobos specifically. Those are the only two schools in the MTZ/PTZ with FBS FB that aren't already in the MWC or Pac 12. I mean maybe you could reach and get UTSA, but anyone else in the Central/Eastern time zone isn't joining the MWC for obvious reasons. You could always take a flier on Montana I suppose. Then every western state would have at least one FBS team. But now we are really starting to venture out into the weeds.

TCU (Fort Worth) was a member of the Mountain West for seven seasons, and that was good for the conference. So I think SMU/Tulsa might be an option. I'm not sure if those schools would be interested in leaving (similar to why the CSU and Air Force stayed put). Or maybe North Texas. They're in Conference USA right now, and from everything I've heard, basically nobody in Conference USA really wants to be in that conference for the long term.

CSU now alone at the top at 7-1. Go Rams! They have UNLV only once and it's at home in Fort Collins. I'll pick the Rams in that one with how they've been playing recently. But they still have road matches at NM, at Wyo, at Boise, and at Utah St. Could be dicey in the last half of the non-conference.
