With Taylor sander not returning to Skra, they’re bringing in Dick Kooy instead, and the numerous rumors that he wants to make the transition to beach, maybe with Taylor Crabb, have we seen the last of Taylor Sander in indoor?? This would be a pretty big blow to the men’s team although if Russell and TJ continue to get better then they could hold down the outside spots. TJ also hinted that he might also make the switch to beach after the 2024 Olympics which means the door would be wide open for another outside for the LA Olympics. Is USA volleyball going to do anything to try to keep these guys as long as they can or do they just let them go because they’re still staying in USA volleyball but just on the beach side?

Just let them do what they want. Sander is transitioning to beach because he wants to preserve his body to prolong his volleyball career.
Russel will be 31 by Paris and we are not sure if he will still have the same physicality compared in his mid 20s.
TJ will get better by 2024. But let’s face it, there are no really good collegiate OH and OPP prospects right now in comparison to the batch of Sander, Russell, etc. So the US indoor NT has grim future in my opinion. Hopefully I’m wrong.
So Sander in beach by 2024 and TJ in 2028 is a good move if they want Oly gold.

This move makes no sense now imo. Sander can still make a lot of money indoor. Beach is basically pay to play until you get to the very top of the sport. As for potentially playing with Crabb, why would he want to be a blocker full time? That also make no sense. Based on his size and skill set he should find a partner where he can either split block or defend.

If Crabb's move to make the Paris Olympics is to try with Sander then just add another tally to terrible life decisions Crabb makes, if Sander is playing with Taylor knowing full well he won't have as strong a chance to qualify but uses his points to help him rack up some of his own international points then smart man. Aside from the money, if your main focus is on the Olympics why not go to the version of the sport that saves your body rather than than beat yourself up to mediocre finishes.

International living can be really hard on a guy trying to start a family. Living socal and playing beach is probably checking a lot of boxes, just not the $ ones.

I agree but lets be real ... he's 29 years old and not playing linebacker in the NFL here.

The Russian silver medalists are quite young as well. At least the Russian big is in his early 20s. Also, there's a very young team from Netherlands that is improving drastically with each tournament and won silver at Vienna last week. I don't think beach is the way to go if they want to medal.

Mol is roughly 3 months younger than TJ, Sorum is 25 with his 26th birthday coming up in December.
The blocker for Russia's #1 beach team will be 25 in about a month, the defender is 30.
I'm interested to see how these young European players pan out after a few years since they've been training like pros since their early teens. Burn out potential is high for that kind of stuff as you enter your late 20's/early 30s and might want to do something else with your life.
Regarding Sander, if he's nearing the end of his indoor career/burnt out on living overseas, he could have some years on the sand.
Regarding US players, they're always going to choose indoor first if the money is where it's currently at professionally. Not counting endorsements, a beach player's best year is more or less what an average indoor player would get for a season and you don't have to travel all over the world chasing tournaments to do it.

Great points. And, if you get hurt during your pro indoor season there is a good chance someone like Sander will still get paid. You get hurt on the beach and you get $0.
