Mol is roughly 3 months younger than TJ, Sorum is 25 with his 26th birthday coming up in December. The blocker for Russia's #1 beach team will be 25 in about a month, the defender is 30. I'm interested to see how these young European players pan out after a few years since they've been training like pros since their early teens. Burn out potential is high for that kind of stuff as you enter your late 20's/early 30s and might want to do something else with your life. Regarding Sander, if he's nearing the end of his indoor career/burnt out on living overseas, he could have some years on the sand. Regarding US players, they're always going to choose indoor first if the money is where it's currently at professionally. Not counting endorsements, a beach player's best year is more or less what an average indoor player would get for a season and you don't have to travel all over the world chasing tournaments to do it. Great points. And, if you get hurt during your pro indoor season there is a good chance someone like Sander will still get paid. You get hurt on the beach and you get $0. Hurt for the year or part of it on the beach the top players will still get USAV $ and much of the sponsorship money. The prize money is gone but that is not all their income. Miss too much of many seasons indoor and you price goes down. Leon get a high price partly because he is so durable and carries such a huge load.

But Sander is one of the best outside hitters in the world and is paid like it. USAV and sponsorship doesn’t compare to his salary in Poland. And, it’s not like he’ll have huge sponsors right away on the beach. If he goes to Paris, gets a medal, and then goes beach he’ll have sponsors lining up. It’s good business. There is a reason why we’ve really never seen anyone who had significant indoor opportunities coming out of college skip those and go straight to the beach. Indoor is where the money is.

I am not disagreeing, it would make financial sense to gut out as many years as he can handle until at least 2024 but he has been at it a while and seems like a mature guy that knows his limits; physical, mental and emotional. He has put in some solid seasons already, maybe he has a big enough nest egg and ready to transition to something else. Heard he was at the beach training with Crabb today.

I am not sure a Sander/Crabb pairing is a good idea, they will be small.

While they may run into some issues against the likes of the bigger international blockers, Cherif/Ahmed are 6'4 and 6'1 and played amazing at the Olympics. My concern would be that Sander hasn't competively focused playing in the sand since high school, and never at this level, while also carrying no points in a quad that has been reduced to 3 years. The learning curve will be steep with very limited time.

And this is why I'm pretty surprised that Evan Cory went straight to the sand after graduating LMU. I'm sure graduating into a Covid world had something to do with it, but even though he's making main draws at AVP events now I can't help but think he would have been better served playing a few seasons indoors first.

It doesn't 100%, but the last time the US placed a men's team with a blocker around his height is 2004? It has been a while since the US as a country has shown success without a dominant blocker with size. I will say, Sander is clearly a unique athlete and I am excited to see what he can do. A stud athlete with ball control could be a very good mix with the type of player Crabb is.

Was Evan high in the usav pipeline? I recall watching him a little in college. TJ and Sanders are a different class of athlete. They were on another level than most of the other athletes in the MPSF/BW. That is the type of player that makes the real $ overseas. Next level down will make more than they can on the beach but most entry level jobs will be better. Point is Evan is not turning down real $ to play beach, he would have to grind hard in a different environment to prove himself and make decent $ after a few years indoor. Sanders is going to be better than Evan on the beach really quickly. Reid less 11 years. If he partners with a top big in a year he will be beating Taylor Crabb

Sander as the full-time blocker is a bad idea imo and whoever plays with Crabb won't be split blocking. If you told me TJ and Taylor were making the move together and would split I'd be very intrigued.

Sander is and elite athlete of course, is he naturally a right side player on the beach?

Best of luck, no matter what he decides...
