NDSU competed well with KC at home. That could have easily been a 5-set match. Basically, I think we are seeing the middle tier (SDSU, NDSU, Oral Roberts) closing the gap with the upper tier (Denver, KC, Omaha, USD). At least the XDSU schools, anyway.
South Dakota has been very inconsistent in the non-con, but had a tough schedule, too. SDSU was very good with a weak schedule. Tonight we will see if the preseason favorite Yotes can get back on track, or if the Jacks can pull an upset over their rivals, and continue the rise from doormat to contender in just Coach Dan Georgalas' second year. (Asst. at Wyoming before)
Some fun facts: SDSU is 2-20 vs. USD in the Division 1 era and 1-13 vs Coach Leanne Williamson (by my count). They have never won a D-1 match in Vermillion, SD, and have never won a set in the Sanford-Coyote Sports Center (2016 first season).

My Jackrabbit-alum wife might yell at me, but I say Coyotes sweep tonight.
Pumped to now have Juhnke, Harms & Weideman on my fantasy team!

My Jackrabbit-alum wife might yell at me, but I say Coyotes sweep tonight. Pumped to now have Juhnke, Harms & Weideman on my fantasy team! Good to hear! I agree on the sweep. Juhnke needs to have a big night. She is due. Harms has been outstanding at Middle, and Lolo W. has seemed to really have the light switch on at Libero in the last tournament. Another to watch is our senior setter Jurgens. I think if we can get some better and more consistent passing to her, her numbers will go up. Right now our strength is depth at Middle, and our blocking can be really dominant at times. That might just be the x-factor tonight. Plus the fans. Last I checked about 950 sold tickets, so I'd guess there will be a lot of walk-ups and students in a rivalry game not competing with football (no home game). I'll predict 1200 to 1600 fans. Doesn't sound like much, but that arena has a relatively low ceiling (not too low for VB), is bowl-shaped and can get loud easily. Not to take anything away from the Jacks, either. The turnaround under this coach has been eye-opening. There is just too big of a talent gap, though. If we can just reduce the errors and stay in-system, this could get ugly fast. Hopefully. Go Yotes!

Results from this weekend:
USD 3-1 over SDSU in a great Juhnke v Burk battle as both finished with 20 kills but Juhnke also had 20 digs
My Bison got swept by ORU. Seemed like Coach JLo tried everyone off the bench but no dice
KC 3-1 over UND, despite getting outblocked. Schomers dished out 51 assists in the 4 set victory.
Denver in a quick sweep over St. Thomas. My former fantasy member, Boe, had 10 kills and 2 aces. Nearly all the bench saw the floor.
Despite a close first set, Omaha makes quick work over Western Illinois in the next 2 sets. Limback’s stat line: 17 k, .300, 2 sa, 10 d & 4 b. Clarkson also had 45 assists in the sweep.

Looks like the Yotes missed the sweep, but when you have 7 service errors and get aced twice in the first set, you just put your opponent ahead nine points. It happens. South Dakota also had a season-low 12 hitting errors and hit a season-high .425 against a quality opponent, so I'd say they are in a good position to compete for the crown, despite the non-con missteps. They are better than their record.
Surprised at the ORU sweep of NDSU! I thought the Bison were performing decently so far. I'm glad we have a double-round-robin schedule, so teams have another shot for a re-match. The Bison will need that vs. ORU. Maybe the Jacks are the best of the middle. I would love for SDSU to upset Denver, Omaha or KC (for selfish reasons)

Lots of good matches this week. Starting with Denver @ KC tomorrow!
I think SDSU @ KC on Thursday has upset potential.
USD @ KC and Denver @ Omaha on Saturday.

Unfortunately, she's not on my roster until this week, so I'm hoping for some big numbers this week However, I live in Fargo so I gotta at least hope for a good fight from my Bison!
