I was wondering why there were only a few teams listed... Turns out they're going back to how it was in previous years. Top 8 per gender get in automatically through the World Rankings and then they award 2 wildcards. This means it's a good payout. It will be Round Robin pool play + Single Elimination. en.volleyballworld.com/en/beachvolleyball/worldtour/2021/wita2021/women/teamsinfo/entriesbycountryAgatha/Duda (Brazil) MHPavs (Canada) Borger/Sude (Germany) Keizer/Meppelink (Netherlands) Makroguzova/Kholomina (Russia) Betschart/Huberli (Switzerland) ATeam (USA) Slaes (USA) Wildcards to be announced.

Maggie/Laura must have declined. They are currently #8. Borger/Sude are #10. Hopefully Joanouk at #9 gets a WC. Then #11 is KWJ/Brooke.
AP/Rebecca are currently #19 as they haven’t played much this year. This probably expedited their split.

Will a sub-par Italian team get a WC?
Will there only be one Brazilian team?
Will the bronzed Joanouk get a call?

Yeah, seems like it’ll be just one Brazilian team this year! Joanouk are #9 and Borger/Sude are #10, so Joanouk probably declined already.

I think so too, but is it possible it's like the Olympics where the slots are awarded to the country's federation and not the actual team? In which case Germany would definitely put up Borger/Sude if maggie/laura declined. Otherwise, I think you're prolly right and Joanouk declined for some reason.

As I recall Joanouk also skipped Euro champs. But they are playing KOC together this weekend so who knows what’s up with them.

They played 5 events to Sude's 7 and finished equal to, or better, than Julia's best finish 4 times. But the true crime is TaTa not getting in. They won an event. Sude: 5, 9, 9, 9, 9, 17, 25. Tata: 1, 9, 9, 9, 17 They won a 4 star and can't get in over a team that never made a semi.

That Italian wildcard is intriging if nothing else. Menegatti has been some events apart from Orsi Toth, is she hurt? But seriusly. I had to look up Gottardi. Giving such a young girl (18) with barely any experirience, a wildcard to the WT Finals, wow. They must have a lot of faith in her, a severe lack of blokers in Italy, or both things.

I would say both. I would not be able to name another other player from Italy besides Menegatti/Orsi Toth, who have done terribly since they reunited.

Quantity is quality for FIVB world tour rank (as opposed to entry rank). Clancy/Artachio are nr. 4 in entry points but only rank 10th due to Covid and only six international competitions (no points for Olympics). Similar for Graudina/Kravcenoka with only four international finishes this past year (Covid and NCAA). Including Olympic finishes at a World Championship level would put both teams in the mix.

This World Tour Finals is the only time they consider the World Ranking points.

Getting no entry/ranking points for the Olympics is so absurd. The whole tour and ranking system revolves around qualifying for the Olympics!!

Getting no entry/ranking points for the Olympics is so absurd. The whole tour and ranking system revolves around qualifying for the Olympics!! I think the idea is that the Olympics is the end goal and a restricted event (and it might be against IOC regulations, I suppouse). I think the World Tour Finals don't award points either (but have very juicy prize money), there could be a similar reasoning there. 2019 WT finals did have points, but that was really a 5* in all but name. And then we have the world championships, also restricted (kind of), also an end goal, but the best points by far of any tournament. So, who knpws what the reason really is.
