No one had LMU third. 😝 1) USC 2) LSU 3) FSU 4) UCLA 5) Cal Poly 6) Hawaii 7) LMU 8) Pepperdine 9) GCU 10) Cal 11) FIU 12) FAU 12) Stetson 14) TCU 15) Long Beach St 15) South Carolina 17) Stanford 18) Georgia St. 19) Arizona 20) ASU

I think the CBVB polls were much more reflective of reality than the coaches polls last season. I appreciate that the voters have once again given the impression that they put some actual thought into the comings and goings this off-season and applied them to the poll instead of just copying and pasting last season's final rankings. I like what they have presented here. Amazing how fast things can change. Not too long ago, Stetson, South Carolina and FIU were fighting for the third Eastern berth at the Natty. Now all three are in danger of sliding out of the top 20 with a slow start. That said, look how far Stanford moved up in one season, so a hot start can change things in a hurry. Who will be the biggest mover (up or down) this year from preseason to the final poll? It's not a huge move in terms of the rankings, but I think TCU will snap FSU's seemingly endless conference championship streak and finish ahead of them in the polls by year's end. And USC could go pole to pole in the polls.

I think UCLA will beat USC at some point during the regular season, they are close enough to stay competitive, but when push comes to shove USC is just too good top to bottom. The biggest question mark in the top 5 in my opinion is LMU. How good will they be with all their roster changes and how good are the transfers and the Europeans? Time will tell. TCU seems to be the replacement for LSU in that top 5, and on paper I think they have a real chance to surpass FSU, but the Noles have a depth that will keep them in the CCSA drivers seat until someone proves they can knock them off. We will find out in week 2 when FSU goes to Fort Worth what that battle will look like this year.

Pepperdine has just been in a slow decline. Stanford slowly getting better. Berkley needs a complete overhaul of their coaching, it's the hermit kingdom of college beach volleyball.

How does Berkley have no experienced Beach players on their staff?? Derek Olson was under the impression that he was the new head coach after Owusu left for maternity leave. I heard it was a bit messy when she decided to come back. Olson is taking over the beach program at Washington and has the full support of the Athletic Dept. He has scholarships to give (unlike Cal) and has already made some great recruiting picks including Zoey Henson 2023. Watch the Huskies break into the polls 3/4 years from now...

Berkley doesn’t auto-correct for you guys to Berkeley? 😝
Without any inside knowledge, I thought Owusu was doing a very good/excellent job before her maternity leave in 2020. Not at the elite level but clearly close enough to win on any given day. I remember being shocked when Cal beat SC in 2018.
With regards to UDub, I’d be shocked if any northern team makes a serious run. Especially if they’re not poaching indoor players. Seattle is the opposite of what BVB stands for. It’s beautiful in the summers for a couple of months, but that’s when the athletes would go home anyways.

What I knew was that two solid players Henson and Julia Waugh'23 were committed and Olson was pushing HARD for Hawaii Decommit Portia Sherman '22 but she just posted tonight that she is going to Cal. So much for beautiful Seattle. But Washington is a top school, Olson is a good coach, they have scholarships to give and I stand by my prediction that he will get that program to a respectable level. Sherman would have moved the needle a bit, but did not happen.

How does Berkley have no experienced Beach players on their staff?? The term hermit kingdom can refer to an organization which willfully walls itself off, metaphorically, from the rest of the world. If you like having emails replied to, coaches showing up at clinics, this is very apt description of Cal.
