Djokovic lost the first set again, and again, it didn't matter, as he advanced in five sets. One more match for the calendar Grand Slam.

I’m really impressed with Raducanus game. Absolutely insane poise, just like Fernandez.

Raducanu wins in straight sets. Absolutely amazing that she won without dropping a set all tournament and after having to play three qualifiers.

Wow! Congrats to Raducanu!! That MTO was so unfortunate, but clearly not Emma’s fault. Insane that she closed it out.

aaah ... It was heartbreaking watching Novak. At the ceremony, he was back to being himself. Djokovic will reach 21, just not in 2021. Big congrats to Medvedev, he played flawlessly.

aaah ... It was heartbreaking watching Novak. At the ceremony, he was back to being himself. Djokovic will reach 21, just maybe not in 2021. Big congrats to Medvedev, he played flawlessly. After Serena in 2015 and Martina in 1984 and now this, the pressure to complete a calendar slam has to be absolutely incredible. Djokovic is regarded as among the most mentally tough athletes ever, and even he couldn't do it. There's a reason only Steffi has pulled it off in over 50 years.

the women's final was a 2-setter that felt like a 3-setter. it was so intense. i too really liked raducanu's all-around game. it's so smooth.
fernandez has some pop too in her game, especially her lefty forehand down the line. just got to shore up her serve, which was a weapon for her leading up to the final. bah, nerves!
djokovic will get there. he'll win 21, and probably a few more after that. his game is just that good/consistent right now. the pressure (and probably tokyo) might have taken a lot out of him in the latter half of the year.
medvedev - he was just due for a grand slam win. it was such a complete performances, although it got nervy at the end with the crowd cheering for a djokovic comeback ... bothering his serve for a couple games. nice to see him flip the script on the aussie final at the start of the year.

I liked Djokovic's on-court interview after the loss. It took winning 20 majors and nearly winning the calendar Grand Slam, but he finally won over New York.
Another thing I've thought of is that even coming up just short, Djokovic is still the first man ever to win the first three majors on different surfaces. When Laver played, the Australian Open was on grass, and so was the US Open for that matter. This means that the incomparable Steffi Graf is the only player in history to win the calendar grand slam while playing on all three surfaces and also dealing with the pressure cooker that it has become.
