So the intention is to continue playing together but they will let us know if Paris is in the cards. There we go.
Chris Marlowe gave us misleading information on live broadcast!!

“ Next season will come soon enough, as will the qualifying period for Paris. And, indeed, “our intention would be to play Paris together,” Ross said.”
Pure speculation, my guess is that Alix told April that she can’t fully commit to Paris due to her upcoming marriage and potential to have kids. Which is only fair… keep playing with the goal for Paris but with the out clause in case the personal life needs to take precedence.

Some interesting notes: -April's ideology going into the 2012 final vs the 2021 final were different. 2012 was more, "Yay, I made the final" and 2021 was, "Let's get the gold". -Lots of big volleyball names were telling April "Alix is too risky" but Jen thought Alix was the right choice. -Alix's serving and "block ball" were not working until the Olympics -Alix met Shaq and he called himself, "the Black Sinjin Smith"

Who was the block other people wanted April to go with, Kelly Claes? Lauren Fendrick?

Who was the block other people wanted April to go with, Kelly Claes? Lauren Fendrick? It wouldn’t be Fendrick because she was already with Fendrick at the time in 2017 when they played for most of the season.

Who was the block other people wanted April to go with, Kelly Claes? Lauren Fendrick? I would imagine Summer. Clearly our best Big at that time.

Prior to that she was 3-4 years off her one good FIVB run with Day and had gone three straight years on the FIVB without a good result. At that time it was far from clear that Summer could succeed on the FIVB.

I'd imagine she was on the short-list of possibilities.

I'd imagine she was on the short-list of possibilities. She played a bunch of events with Fendrick after splitting with KWJ, including World Champs, some international tournaments and a couple AVPs. April also broke her toe at the NYC AVP, so she was sidelined for a few weeks. Sounded like the partnership with Fendrick was only temporary and they both knew that the partnership would be a one season thing.

Im sure Lauren was hoping they would have success and she would be able to stay with April longer, but by then she was a known quantity as a player and I doubt April really considered her for the long term.

April obviously had some success with Lauren, 2nd at world champs and winning a couple of AVPs. But going with another player turning 39 would have been risky, especially one planning to start a family (assuming that was discussed). Alix really fell into her lap at the right time. But otherwise Summer seemed like the best option at the time. Kolinske also might have been an interesting choice with Olympic potential.

Hard to say because it was only a few AVPs and April had the injury, but 1 of 3 would be April's worst winning rate since 2009, on maybe the weakest AVP tour ever. Also I think its been a while since April considered a 2nd anywhere a good result. Poor Lauren, one 15 point game and she would have had an all time underdog story, but the rest of that year, and again April had some issues, they got beaten soundly in 2 games every time they played a good team. Hindsight, blah blah, but I think April may have tried to reconcile with Kerri if the Alix option didnt work out

Didn't April kinda dog it in a USAV practice event when she played with Claes around that time too? Like everyone thought that maybe she would have picked Kelly up around that time too. Or was that just us speculating on the board?
