Hi Volleyballmag.com staff, I know this has been a crazy year, but are there any plans to continue your High School Fab30 awards for Beach? Thanks for all your hard work! It's so weird having to type this, but the late Ed Chan was covering beach. With his recent passing I'm sure something will come about. I'll ask.

"There were, for the first time since 2012, Olympic gold medalists competing on the AVP"
Phil Dalhausser and Ricardo Santos are Olympic gold medalists still competing on the AVP. Not to mention Eric Fonoimoana played an AVP in 2018, Todd Rogers, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and Misty May all played in 2016.
If you want to get technical, David Lee, Reid Priddy, and Riley Salmon are also Olympic gold medalists who played on the AVP in recent years.

He probably could have been more clear and said "defending gold medalists" but I think it is safe to assume the 2012 reference is to KWJ playing a couple events with Nicole Branaugh after she won gold in London. One other thing that stood out to me is the reminder that for as dominant as Larissa and Juliana were for so many years, they only have the one bronze medal from the Olympics. Crazy. Oh, and I had no idea that Lili had medaled on the FIVB tour multiple times - and just looked her up and found out she also got bronze at the 2013 world championships and was a U21 world champ. Based on what I read on this board, I always assumed she was just a Brazillian rec player that Larissa married and decided to play with.

Perhaps, but KWJ continued to play AVP as "defending gold medalist" from 2012-2016. If he was referring to the last time Olympic gold medalists played on the AVP as a team, it was actually 2009 when Kerri/Misty last played together. Edit: He must have been referring to Phil/Todd playing AVP together in 2012.

Based on what I read on this board, I always assumed she was just a Brazillian rec player that Larissa married and decided to play with. Lili was a solid player in her prime. Maybe just outside of the top 15 Brazilian players of her era - and we forget how many awesome female players Brazil has/had (there are more than 10 active Brazilian women with 3 or more FIVB wins). If she played for another country, she might have found better teammates or gotten a win, but trying to find partners and get through that murderer's row in Brazil back then, and now. grtorres and 23flavors would know much more about where Lili stood in the pecking order in Brazil but I don't think I'm too far off. BTW the US has two active players with 3 wins, the Ateam, but hopefully our new generation will continue what Slaes started

Hi Volleyballmag.com staff, I know this has been a crazy year, but are there any plans to continue your High School Fab30 awards for Beach? Thanks for all your hard work! Yes! Actually Mike Miazga handled that. Working on it again. I agree with your assessment. I think with Lili, it was about her becoming a solid player, but never achieving the level people expected after she won the U21 WCH, and also never having a partner that gave her a good chance to do more internationally. She was always well behind the top blockers during her peak, namely Juliana, Talita, Carol and Agatha, who emerged as an elite player a little bit later than the others. She had a really good run with a young Rebecca back in 2012/2013, contending for the Brazilian season title with Agatha/Barbara, but then Rebecca got pregnant. She played with Barbara and Maria Antonelli, who both won a lot at the WT, but not in ideal situations. With Barbara, they were "forced" to play together in the short-lived national team program in Brazil in 2013 and did well, taking bronze at the World Champs, but that was never going to last as they played with their "real" partners back home. When Maria joined her, it was probably in the worst moment of Maria's career. The two partners she spent the most time with internationally were Angela and Josi and it was really difficult to contend in elite tournaments with them.

Right, but they were the last gold medal winning team to play on the AVP until Alix and April did.

So, no talk on Casey being MVP, vs Chase who seemed to be the better player on that partnership???
