You investigate so the guilty can be punished...if there is guilt.
If this was planned from above, then those people should be held accountable just like the crazy guy who stole beer from Pelosi's office.
If you do not investigate, it will encourage further radical behavior and eventually, something like January 6th will be led by competent villains and they will end the American experiment.
