This is also why the NCAA should prohibit volunteer assistants from receiving camp payouts of any kind. It's a system that's very easy to abuse. Or add a third paid position and eliminate volunteers entirely. Many schools don't even have a paid second assistant. 1. People are abusing the volunteer rule. A lot. 2. University departments with eight and nine-figure operating budgets shouldn't be exploiting unpaid labor. 3. If you can't properly staff your programs, you need to consider whether you should be competing at the level you are.

I'm not sure how much bigger staffs can get!!! floridagators.com/sports/womens-volleyball/coaches (without the just announced volunteer) uwbadgers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/coachesusctrojans.com/sports/womens-volleyball/coachesThe staff limits are designed to encourage participation and equality at some point, but elite football programs have found a way around this - with full on NFL style personnel staffs that not only track recruits but now collect and break down video on players who may appear in the portal. They aren't coaches so it's ok! Does allowing a 4th coach on the road to recruit make volleyball less fair? Idk, probably not. Does it make smaller programs feel just a little more helpless? I imagine it would at some level.

Additional coaches could lighten the recruiting load a bit. But I don't think it's any kind of huge advantage. The bigger issue may be in mid-majors keeping coaches. If every Big Ten and SEC school adds an $100k/year coach, there's a decent chance those people are plucked from mid major HC spots.

Yeah, but it is at a perennial powerhouse, i.e. great stepping stone to bigger and better jobs. CK doesn't need stepping stones, does she? I think she just wants to work for / with Mary Wise before she retires. Or just go on another unhinged racist rant

I would imagine the volunteer spot at Florida pays better than 2nd assistant at CofC. Camp money is not as much as you want to believe….payout still has to go to players and other coaches working camps.

I imagine it would at some level. Power five football teams (depending on how good) have about 10 GA’s. But their rules are different..GA’s are allowed to actually coach. In VBAll, you can only have three paid coaches, and one volunteer assistant. Which means they can only be the ones to provide on court and in match instruction. If you’re anyone else, you can’t do anything. This includes DOVOs. At best, during practice, they can shag and catch balls. At the d2/d3 levels, there are teams with five coaches. I used my 5th year (after redshirting due to medical) as a student assistant because I was on money. I don’t know if rules have changed or what they are now but just my insight.

I was a DI head coach and an assistant at a top 150 and top 75 program. I made almost as much money as a P5 volunteer as I did as a head coach.
