This week's update!
Trentino 3-1 Lube Another game, another good middle match for Trentino. Like seriously, gotta be one of the best duos of middles in the league. Michieletto (21 kills, over .485 hitting %) and Kaziyski's (13 kills, .571 hitting %) termination looked really good. Passing/serving could probably be a bit better though. Lube's termination was not nearly as good as Trentino's and they too were frequently playing out of system. With Juantorena out, they relied on Yant who isn't a great passer and Gabi Garcia Fernandez could not be relied upon to score well. Plus, De Cecco had to come in as a sub due to foreigner rules.
Monza 3-0 Taranto Second set was competitive but the match went as expected. Serving pressure by Taranto wasn't quite enough. Grozer had a big match (17 kills on .695 hitting %!) and Monza's block was big.
Piacenza 3-2 Milano Messy at times, but a nice win by Piacenza. The OH situation is still rotating, but Antonov started in the 4th and 5th sets and Rossard started the entire match... not encouraging for Russell at all. Receiving wise, Milano was quite bad and Ishikawa really struggled to score. Jaeschke was okay. Holt wasn't as good as I thought, but still solid especially in the 5th. Milano fell apart in set 5, but credit to Piacenza for being able to sustain their runs and get some nice transition kills.
Modena 3-0 Vibo Valentia Interestingly, the passing stats were quite close. Vibo Valentia had their chances, but couldn't sustain their level of play. It also doesn't help that Nimir and Ngapeth were scoring so well. Nishida gets some tough looks, but struggled to score. I'd like to see him improve his shots and angles, and tooling the block is something he could do more often. Modena out-blocked Vibo Valentia as well... although I think both teams could clean up the ball control a little bit.
Cisterna 3-1 Verona Passing was a mess at times, is that going to be a theme for these teams? Mozic had a huge match for Verona (29 kills!). The rest of the attackers weren't as great, and the blocking differential was huge in Cisterna's favor. Szwarc had a nice match for Cisterna with 18 kills.
Padova 3-2 Ravenna Bottolo was great receiving wise, although I think him and Loeppky could cut down their errors offensively. Weber led the team in kill with 19. Ravenna's offense and blocking needed to be better, they struggled particularly in set 1 and 5. If Padova does sign Takahashi, I'd be interested to see in what capacity he plays.

I'm commentating Perugia-Taranto on Wednesday, which will be the quickest 3-0 of all time, but it's annoying that all six matches are at exactly the same time. They're cannibalizing their own viewership, especially with Vibo vs. Milano likely to draw all the viewers for Nishida vs. Ishikawa

Also, please try to really learn the correct pronunciation of the players' names. I really like listening to commentators and learning from them how to properly pronounce player's names, and it gets confusing when it's different per game

I actually gave up, it's just so hard to look for their games. I asked if i can subscribe to the box-something and they said yes, i just have to get the package... Their reply wasn't clear enough with regards to geo-blocking. I am actually willing to risk and get a subscription but i don't know why the auto-translation doesn't work with their site... sorry for the OT

Lots of VB today! VBW has been pushing the Vibo Valentia vs. Milano game but another notable one is Modena vs. Piacenza. Won't be able to watch live but I'll be watching some of the replays!

In the second set of Trento - Padova, Michieletto got hurt. Ankle sprain. Replaced by Pinali Lavia. The match is now 1-1 23-23.

Piacenza smacked Modena around today. Stellar play from Brizard, Holt, Cester and Lagumdzija. Racine is a ball of energy and Rossard is passing nails. Impressive team

(apologies for my bad English)
Padova won deservedly against Trento 3-2. Among Padova's players I liked Bottolo. As for Michieletto, it was a sprain of the right ankle because he fell on Weber's feet. I hope he can recover as soon as possible.

Finally watched the Vibo Valentia vs. Milano match. I thought it would go to 4 sets, but Milano was able to sweep. Milano passed better, out blocked Vibo, and just looked better in crunch time. Patry and Ishikawa were great offensively. Jaeschke benefitted from being matched up against Saitta, but his stat line was solid as well especially passing (71% positive, 53% perfect). Porro definitely could work on transition and medium system sets but he plays with some boldness and I like his serve.
For Vibo, the Brazilian outside duo did not perform too well. Their passing settled down after the first set, but Saitta could probably do a better job locating. Nishida was solid with 16 kills hitting around 0.343. Lots of quick, in-system or transition plays that were just unstoppable. I do think that out of system or when the set is not perfect, he could do a better job recycling, swinging high, or mixing his shots. He also had a couple of errors when he was out on the left side in ro. 1 and it definitely seemed like Vibo wanted to avoid setting him in that rotation. Interestingly, I thought Nishida was going around 85-90% on some of his serves and it was actually working well.
Will post the rest of the recap of today's matches later.

Patry has been keeping Milano alive. Ishikawa and Jaeschke are just underwhelming. Doesn't Milano have any other outside hitters?
Michieletto got injured. I think its nothing serious but most probably he won't be playing in Matchday5.
Modena is the shock of the season for me. They have Leal, Ngapeth, Nimir and Bruno. I thought they would dominate. But they lose 2 of their three games.
Rossard is proving that he should have been in the olympic lineup instead of Louati.

I was annoyed at the idea of six matches at the same time the other day, because it was set up to cannibalize its own viewership, but commentating Perugia-Taranto while all the others were going on was kinda fun. Other than set 2 which Taranto stole, the match was not that close, so I was periodically checking the other scores and relaying them on the broadcast. Kind of like an NFL RedZone vibe. Fun to catch up with the other matches after mine was done, Piacenza-Modena was wild, Padova-Trentino was REALLY wild
