Quick recap of the rest of Wednesday's matches Lube 3-0 VeronaWent as expected. It was a blistering attack, with the exception of Garcia Fernandez who didn't perform too well offensively. Yant passed nicely for Lube which is good to see. Again, Mozic's offense was really really good. However, the passing numbers don't look great although Lube's got some good servers. Padova 3-2 TrentinoThis was quite the match! It wasn't the cleanest game by any means (umm I'm too lazy to tally up all the errors haha). Loeppky got worked, but Padova had just enough offense from Bottolo and Weber. Not a particularly good showing for Trentino's pins either and without Michieletto's offense it wasn't looking too pretty. Pinali is a decent player, but not someone who I'd want to take big swings. Piacenza 3-1 ModenaAnother great match! Piacenza did a good job getting touches (out-blocked Modena 14-7!!) and scoring in transition. Offensively, the middles for Piacenza weren't great but it's not like Modena had any middle offense either with their poor passing. Recine had an awesome match, and combine that with Rossard's smart swings and Lagumdzija's physicality... whew. Don't forget that Lagumdzija's just 22 years old! I thought Van Garderen did a nice job off the bench for Modena, but it was one of those days where Nimir was making too many errors and trying to swing straight down. Monza 3-1 RavennaRavenna's passing was not looking good. But at least they took a set! Monza's offense looked pretty good, particularly Galassi who went 7 for 8 with no errors. Not much more to say about this match tbh. Perugia 3-1 Taranto
The stats actually have Taranto's passing numbers as slightly better than Perugia's so that is a moral victory (+the set win). Blocks were heavily in favor of Perugia which is to be expected. Rychlicki had a solid match, which is nice to see. Side note, it would be nice to cut down the service errors across the league .

For this round, I enjoyed Piacenza-Modena and Padova-Trentino the most! Both close and good matches. I've read an article that Padova is the youngest team in the league based on average age with around 23 years old. Pretty interesting, and they will even have another young player in Ran Takahashi most likely starting December. I like how Bottolo played this game, and for Trentino I hope Michieletto's injury isn't serious. For Piacenza, I'm really amazed by Lagumdzijia in their past games, such a great player.
Next round, I'm looking forward to Piacenza vs Monza and Milano vs Lube. Perugia vs Trentino would be good too, but I don't know how Trentino will do if Michieletto is not playing.

The rumors about Takahashi are really strong. Hopefully they're true. He helps address Padova's weakness in passing, but I'm not sure about Takahashi's offense compared to Loepkky or Bottolo.

The rumors about Takahashi are really strong. Hopefully they're true. He helps address Padova's weakness in passing, but I'm not sure about Takahashi's offense compared to Loepkky or Bottolo. Even Coach Blain mentioned about Takahashi playing in Italy so that's likely true, together with the Padova rumors from articles. The December hint of volleyballworld would also likely mean Takahashi will play in their collegiate tournament which will end on the first week of December, before going to Italy. They are 2nd place last year and I would expect they want to have a go for Championship this year before letting go of Takahashi I don't have high hopes either on his offense, but I agree he is likely a good help in their passing.

I am hearing Michieletto will miss the next three matches. That is huge as it is Perugia, Monza and Modena. Hopefully he comes back sooner.

Wow, Monza sweeps Piacenza. Russell got time as a sub, but looked rough.

Monza sensed blood Yup, none of the pins for Piacenza were terminating well enough. When Lagumdzija is having a hard time finding the floor, then it puts stress on the other pins. Meanwhile, the pins for Monza were a lot more successful even out of system.

Kovar getting the start for Lube against Milano, likely so that De Cecco can play As a Ishikawa/Jaeschke superfan, I would love an update on this match 😁 Of course! Lube swept Milano, although each of the sets were only won by 2 points. Here's my take after watching this match. While watching, I kept wondering how many more service errors Milano was going to make. The stats show that they had 20 (!!) service errors in a 3 set match. Lube had 10! Passing wise Jaeschke was at 75/50 (positive %/perfect %) and Ishikawa was at 62/31, which is really really solid. Attacking wise, I saw a lot of smart swings and nice in-system plays by Jaeschke, and Ishikawa was his usual self adding in some of his own smart swings but also the quick, powerful termination we are accustomed to. Patry (who took the majority of the swings) wasn't too great at a .216 clip. Lube played with Kovar at the OH position although they did sub in Yant / Juantorena for some plays. I think Juantorena is not at 100% yet. None of their pin hitters really impressed me offensively, but their middles had great matches. Their defense was able to get some nice touches but I think a little part of that was because of Milano's setter Porro being a bit predictable and inconsistent with location (which is to be expected because he's only 20 years old). I haven't been too impressed with Garcia Fernandez so far, but he is young. Just thought he'd be slightly more effective. Anyways, this was a really close match and to me it felt like Milano's errors, Porro's youth showing (at times), and Lube just making the better plays in crunch time, were the difference.

Quick recaps of the rest of the matches for this round. I missed a couple of the matches but used the stats for the ones I couldn't catch on replay!
Perugia 3-0 Trentino Ironically enough, Pinali had a really solid match but it was the normal starters (Lavia and Kaziyski) who really struggled offensively. Trentino's struggles in passing also meant that their middles didn't get a lot of looks. Reception doesn't seem to be Trentino's strong suit, but I think it's clear how important Michieletto is for them. Perugia's block was quite good (out blocking Trentino 8-4) and although they had a lot of service errors, their serving did a lot of damage when it was in. Also, all 3 of Perugia's pins hit over .400! Leon was Leon too.
Monza 3-0 Piacenza Honestly, I expected Piacenza to win. However, Monza's pins were able to terminate better than their counterparts. They actually passed worse than Piacenza but that didn't matter with the quality of out of system / transition swings that Dzavoronok and Grozer were taking. Their block was also pretty good. As I stated earlier, Lagumdzija was not finding the floor often enough, which really put the pressure on Recine and Rossard. With the pins not terminating and the middles hardly seeing any action, Piacenza wasn't able to match Monza.
Verona 3-2 Taranto Wasn't able to catch the replay, but looks like this one was a close one. Mozic took 53 swings to lead Verona, and had 23 kills on .320%. Both teams were relatively even passing wise, although Taranto out blocked Verona 14-10. Kyed Jensen was decent as well with 15 kills on .323%.
Modena 3-0 Ravenna Wasn't able to catch this one either, but it was a sweep with a very close 3rd set. Reception for Ravenna was not good, but not surprised by that. The reception for Modena was significantly better, although Ngapeth and Nimir had some abysmal hitting numbers. Leal however was excellent with 14 kills (no errors) and his reception was somewhat decent at 50/30.
Cisterna 3-1 Vibo Valentia Solid win for Cisterna. Maar and Swarzc had 20 and 19 kills respectively, which are really impressive numbers. Youngster Rinaldi gave a nice spark too, although his passing will need more work. Vibo out blocked Cisterna, but couldn't quite match Cisterna's firepower. Nishida led Vibo with 19 kills on 0.341% which is quite solid, although Mauricio didn't do enough which put more pressure on the others. Also, still not impressed by Saitta

Thanks for the recaps! I have yet to watch all the games except for Lube-Milano and Cisterna-Vibo, but I will catch up in the next few days. The service errors of Milano are too annoying to watch, specially comparing how little service errors their opponent is having compared to them. I agree Porro is quite predictable on this match, although the attackers were not on their best also. Their usual middle plays are missing on the first half of the game, and they can't really rely on Patry alone as the opponent blockers will easily figure it out.
As I mentioned before, Monza-Piacenza is what I was really looking forward to this round (two of my favorites to watch this season!) I expected Monza to win, but I didn't expect a straight set victory. I will catch the game later today, but looking at the stats, Lagumdzijia not doing good is definitely a big concern on Piacenza as as their usual offense leader.
