As a Ishikawa/Jaeschke superfan, I would love an update on this match 😁 Of course! Lube swept Milano, although each of the sets were only won by 2 points. Here's my take after watching this match. While watching, I kept wondering how many more service errors Milano was going to make. The stats show that they had 20 (!!) service errors in a 3 set match. Lube had 10! Passing wise Jaeschke was at 75/50 (positive %/perfect %) and Ishikawa was at 62/31, which is really really solid. Attacking wise, I saw a lot of smart swings and nice in-system plays by Jaeschke, and Ishikawa was his usual self adding in some of his own smart swings but also the quick, powerful termination we are accustomed to. Patry (who took the majority of the swings) wasn't too great at a .216 clip. Lube played with Kovar at the OH position although they did sub in Yant / Juantorena for some plays. I think Juantorena is not at 100% yet. None of their pin hitters really impressed me offensively, but their middles had great matches. Their defense was able to get some nice touches but I think a little part of that was because of Milano's setter Porro being a bit predictable and inconsistent with location (which is to be expected because he's only 20 years old). I haven't been too impressed with Garcia Fernandez so far, but he is young. Just thought he'd be slightly more effective. Anyways, this was a really close match and to me it felt like Milano's errors, Porro's youth showing (at times), and Lube just making the better plays in crunch time, were the difference. Did we watch the same game? You praised Ishikawa and just passed Patry. Ishikawa had a lot of errors. And I mean a lot. Errors that were even simple. Patry carried Milano in that game. People online were screaming at Ishikawa and Chinenyeze because Patry and Jaeschke were the only ones who were effective.

He had less swings than Patry (as I pointed out). Yes Ishikawa had too many service errors, but I never praised his serving. In fact, all I said is that he had some smart swings and some typical Ishikawa powerful swings. He also only had 1 reception error and 62/31 is a solid reception line. Reception did slip for the team in set 3 tho. Regarding Patry, I’m aware that they leaned on him to score. However, I wouldn’t call 14-6-37 a great statline for him. And I acknowledged that Porro didn’t have his best game, which in combination with Lube’s defense, may have contributed to Patry not having his best offensive game. Serving wise, he was very good.

Quick recaps of the rest of the matches for this round. I missed a couple of the matches but used the stats for the ones I couldn't catch on replay! Perugia 3-0 TrentinoIronically enough, Pinali had a really solid match but it was the normal starters (Lavia and Kaziyski) who really struggled offensively. Trentino's struggles in passing also meant that their middles didn't get a lot of looks. Reception doesn't seem to be Trentino's strong suit, but I think it's clear how important Michieletto is for them. Perugia's block was quite good (out blocking Trentino 8-4) and although they had a lot of service errors, their serving did a lot of damage when it was in. Also, all 3 of Perugia's pins hit over .400! Leon was Leon too. Monza 3-0 PiacenzaHonestly, I expected Piacenza to win. However, Monza's pins were able to terminate better than their counterparts. They actually passed worse than Piacenza but that didn't matter with the quality of out of system / transition swings that Dzavoronok and Grozer were taking. Their block was also pretty good. As I stated earlier, Lagumdzija was not finding the floor often enough, which really put the pressure on Recine and Rossard. With the pins not terminating and the middles hardly seeing any action, Piacenza wasn't able to match Monza. Verona 3-2 TarantoWasn't able to catch the replay, but looks like this one was a close one. Mozic took 53 swings to lead Verona, and had 23 kills on .320%. Both teams were relatively even passing wise, although Taranto out blocked Verona 14-10. Kyed Jensen was decent as well with 15 kills on .323%. Modena 3-0 RavennaWasn't able to catch this one either, but it was a sweep with a very close 3rd set. Reception for Ravenna was not good, but not surprised by that. The reception for Modena was significantly better, although Ngapeth and Nimir had some abysmal hitting numbers. Leal however was excellent with 14 kills (no errors) and his reception was somewhat decent at 50/30. Cisterna 3-1 Vibo ValentiaSolid win for Cisterna. Maar and Swarzc had 20 and 19 kills respectively, which are really impressive numbers. Youngster Rinaldi gave a nice spark too, although his passing will need more work. Vibo out blocked Cisterna, but couldn't quite match Cisterna's firepower. Nishida led Vibo with 19 kills on 0.341% which is quite solid, although Mauricio didn't do enough which put more pressure on the others. Also, still not impressed by Saitta I commentated Verona-Taranto, fun and evenly matched battle between two teams with similar talent levels. Brazilian legend Raphael (at 42 years old!) started at setter for Verona over Luca Spirito, so they had to start another Italian, which was Giulio Magalini at outside instead of the Bulgarian Asparuhov. I've never been too high on Mads Jensen as a player but he was pretty good yesterday. Taranto relentlessly targeted Mozic serving, and he hung in there pretty well. Taranto had a couple magical blocking runs to win them their two sets, but Verona took more advantage of transition opportunities. Fun match. Interested to see if Verona sticks with that lineup going forward.

There are a couple of matches taking place today from the schedule of the 11th week. I assume this is due to the fact Trentino and Lube will be in Brazil at the Club World Championships when the 11th matchday will be played.
Trentino at Ravenna
Lube at Monza
There is also a CEV Cup match involving Modena. They are playing VaLePa of Finland.

"... there is important news for Lorenzetti's team (Trentino): during today's afternoon training session, Alessandro Michieletto returned to work out with the group, having just come back from an ankle injury sustained in the home match against Padova. The attacker will therefore be listed among the 13 players available for the match (vs Vero Volley Monza) at the BLM Group Arena." Also, it seems pretty much official at this point that Takahashi signed with Padova. Volleybox has him on their roster, just waiting for an official announcement. I heard he will not be joining before the end of this calendar year because of University commitments.

Watching the Civitanova - Modena match ... the announcer calling other people's names is confusing me. This game seems intense but the players seem so calm or tired ... lol

Recap time!
Perugia 3-0 Milano Perugia was very successful at the service line and also with their block. Leon was Leon and Rychlicki had a great match (12-1-20). Anderson did not play the whole match. Milano's passing was rough to say the least: 34% positive and only 7% perfect.... I was disappointed by Ishikawa's play although he was getting some tough looks. OOS setting for Milano needs to improve. None of the pins for Milano were particularly effective though.
Lube 3-1 Modena Lube's serve + block did them a lot of favors against Modena. 2 of the sets went past 25, and I felt that it was a pretty intense match. Yant and Garcia Fernandez split some time and performed well which is nice to see for the youngsters. Anzani (10 kills on 11 swings + 5 blocks!!) and Simon also had stellar performances. Ngapeth struggled for Modena, as did Lucarelli for Lube.
Trentino 3-1 Monza Pinali had a solid match, as did Lisinac. Monza had more service errors, but also kept the serve-pass battle relatively close. Monza's pins weren't as effective. Monza needs to clean up some of those errors.
Vibo Valentia 3-0 Ravenna Nishida had a great match with 10 kills (.421 hitting %) and 5 aces. I still think he needs to cut down the service errors. Saitta did a nice job of distributing and Basic led the offense with 12 kills and no errors. Passing needs to be cleaned up a tad. Ravenna had more service errors and was not as effective attacking wise.
Piacenza 3-1 Cisterna Cisterna lost the serve-pass battle (especially in the fourth set), although their blocking was solid. Stern and Russell got some PT. Russell's numbers don't look great - 38/13 passing, 8-4-21 attacking. Piacenza's depth is certainly an asset, but at times it feels like they just need to stick with one lineup lol. Lanza had a solid match 64/46 passing and 10 kills.
Taranto 3-0 Padova Definitely a match Padova wants back. They outblocked Taranto and kept the serve pass battle relatively even... but the offense just wasn't there. Loeppky particularly struggled with only 3 kills on 16 swings and his passing was 33/7 which is poor. Weber also wasn't effective. Joao Rafael had a solid match for Taranto.
