Sheeeesh Leyla Blackwell. That's my girl! Fight On! and I are putting our forces together in Fantasy sharing blocks with the Blackwell-Frohling WALL

Tied at 11-11. And the offense for San Diego is entirely Lukes and Frohling tonight.

Is Tercariol really that much of a better option than Madill? Tercariol has some great sets with the pins, but her connections with the middle are almost non existent.

Not good to have middles hitting .000 and .091. But Blackwell has 10 blocks and Goddard 6 blocks, so they just keep setting Lukes and Frohling. Frohling has 20 kills, Lukes 19, and no one else has more than 5?? That's not good distribution. Chillingworth and Ammerman kills have tied the fifth at 13-13

It's unfortunate because Blackwell is such a weapon in the middle.

To think that Pepperdine ended up being the one with the balanced offense after being heavily skewed toward Ahrens all year.

Gutsy win for San Diego in 5 without a major part of their offense in Kylie Pries. Hopefully she heals up quickly because she is such an important part of their offense. Pepperdine was going on long service runs when Hester was in the front row, and it was a big reason why they kept giving up so many points on runs. Passing just shut down and it was not pretty to watch.
Lukes looked amazing hitting out of the back row. She usually takes some time to get going, but one she did, man. Her attacking is the best it's been her entire collegiate career. Frohling also did well offensively, but I feel like the setting is still holding her back. I would like to see Madill take the reigns because she I feel like she would spread out the offense more. Hester is going to have to improve a lot more if Pries isn't coming back soon. This was definitely a good experience for her.
The stat that stands out to me is 16 blocks for USD vs. only 5 for Pepperdine, which is pretty surprising to me because I feel like Pepperdine is usually the team that outblocks teams. Looking forward to how San Diego's block matches up against BYU's block soon.
For Pepperdine, Ahrens really struggled with 15 kills and 15 errors to hit 0.000. On the other hand, Grace Chillingworth had a fantastic match! Chillingworth looks like the clear frontrunner for FOY in the conference to me. Don't know any other freshman who has as good of a resume as her yet. Really impressed with her poise down the stretch. Also, shout out to Madison Shields. By far the best libero in the conference, and some of her digs were absolutely jaw dropping. Incredible performance by her.

I’d also say the SA/SE ratios were heavily in USDs favor, despite their abysmal passing. And about 10% USDs TA went through the middle, which was pretty brazen - I mean, we’re going to Grace and Katie and try to stop us. No we’re not going to go to the middle after establishing the pins. Just Gr and Ka. That’s it.

I love Annie Benbow and I think she is absolutely fantastic, but from my eye I think Shields is a much steadier passer. Would love to see the numbers if you have them! I could be totally wrong!

I've said many times how hard it is to assess passing, so don't take this personally but Benbow is a much stronger passer. She had a 55.8% GP in the spring. Shields was at 44.1%. Passing is the weakest part of Benbow's game (always has been). She is at 50.8% this fall and relies on her touch so can struggle in matches but she is still a lot better than Shields. Do you know what isn't hard to see? Hiding your libero in SR as Pepperdine has done with Shields on multiple occasions (including against USD in the spring).

Either way, they are both fantastic liberos to have.
