List of players who are trying out for the Korean League 2022-2023: Nia Reed (USA, OPP but listed as OH?) Willow Johnson (USA, OPP) Nikoleta Periodic (Montenegro, OPP) Vanja Savic (Serbia, OPP) Karla Klaric (Croatia, OH) Ceren Kapucu (Turkey, OPP) Thaynara Emmel (Turkey, OPP/OH) Evangelia Chantava (Greece, OH) Jennifer Alvarez (Cuba, OH) Kadi Kullerkann (Estonia, OPP) Katarina Jovic (Serbia, OH) Saskia Hippe (Germany, OPP) Ivonne Montano (Colombia, OPP) Elena Savanna (Russia, OH) Aria Andrievskaia (Moldova/Romania, OPP) Sharon Chepchumba (Kenya, OH/OPP) Bruna Moraes (Brazil, OPP) Michaela Mlejnkova (Czech Republic, OH) Erika Mercado (Argentina, OPP) Carly DeHoog (USA, OPP) Micaya White (USA, OH) Marijeta Runjic (Croatia, OPP) Anastasiya Gurbanova (Azerbaijian, OH) Andrea Mitrovic (Canada, OH) Jaali Winters (USA, OH) Brittany Abercrombie (Puerto Rico, OPP) Adeola Owokoniran (USA, OH) Melissa Evans (USA, OPP) Alex Holston (USA, OPP) Shainah Joseph (Canada, OPP) Caroline Livingston (Canada, OH) Gabriela Maciagowski (Poland(?), OH) Jelena Vulin (Serbia, OPP) Nikola Radosova (Slovakia, OH) Greta Szakmary (Hungary, OH) Rebecca Latham (USA, OPP) Gyselle De Sliva (Cuba, OH) Wilma Salas (Cuba, OH) Neira Ortiz (Puerto Rico, OPP/MB) Milica Tasic (Serbia, OH)
Players from last season who are trying out again: Yasmeen Bedart Ghani (OPP, played for Hyundai Hillstate) Laetitia Moma Bassoko (OPP, played for GS Caltex) Jelena Mladjenovic (OPP, played for Daejon KGC) Daly Santana (OH, played for IBK Altos) Khat Bell (OPP, played for Heungkuk Pink Spiders) Elizabet Inneh Varga (OPP, played for Pepper Savings Bank)
Players from last season who did not submit their name for tryouts: Kelsie Payne (OPP, played for Hi-Pass)
Alternates for Tryout (I'm not sure if this is correct, but this is my interpretation of it?): Angel Gaskin (USA, OPP) Franki Strefling (USA, OH) Fernanda Tome (Brazil, OH) Ciara DeBell (USA, OH) Thaisa McLeod (Peru, OPP) Yunieska Robles (Cuba, OPP) Malina Terrell (USA, OH)
People who submitted their name for a tryout, and then withdrew (again I'm not sure if this is what it means but I think this is correct): Tugba Senoglu (Turkey, OH) Heidy Casanova (Cuba, OPP)
All of the OHs will be closely looked at by IBK since that is their position of need, now that Kim HeeJin will be playing OPP full time. Other teams will likely be looking for opposites I think.

Don’t you make bank in Korea Yep. All foreigners make 6 figures. Even the local players make an insane amount of money. 36 year old libero Yim Myung Ok is one of the highest paid liberos in the world right now. I think she signed a contract for close to $600k. I personally think Korea should invest that money into better coaches, training programs, etc., and I would also like to see them try and send teams to compete at the Asian Club Championships. Playing against the same 6 teams for months on end isn't good for development.

I wish Asia had its own "Champions League" type tournament. I know the Asian Club Championships are a thing, but a more official tournament including more teams from all countries could be fun, especially with how popular volleyball is in asian countries.
Hold the event in the Philippines every year and I'm sure they will make a profit lol

Hold the event in the Philippines every year and I'm sure they will make a profit lol You'd have to establish one foreigner per team... otherwise the chinese teams would just run over everyone. The Club Championships with more Chinese/Japanese representation would be fun. I'm not sure what the top Korean team is like. Annie isn't even going to play for JT this year. She's back in Cali now

She's back in Cali now The "one foreigner per team" rule could definitely be a thing. China sort of did it this past season with their "only one foreigner on the court" rule. The top Korean team this season was Hyundai Hillstate led by Yasmeen Bedart Ghani and Yang Hyo Jin. The match ups would be interesting, especially between Japanese/Korean teams since that country rivalry will literally always exist no matter what, but the top Japanese/Chinese teams would probably be the favorites.

Playing against the same 6 teams for months on end isn't good for development. Its a...stagnant pool. The Chinese league has more teams but got the same issue. Tianjin wins all the time. Players in other teams don't get to play higher level competition and seldom get the chance to play overseas unless those with power and connection allow that to happen (i.e. Lang Ping made it possible for Zhu Ting to play for Vakifbank). So the level of the play in the league overall remains below the level of the top European leagues. Tianjin gets routinely trounced in international club competitions despite their dominance in the domestic league. That tells you alot about that gap.

Queen KYK talking about her opinions on the Korean League and Korean volleyball:
-Feels that the level of the Japanese league is lower than it was before because there are no longer local players on the level of legends like Take%*$#a and Saori anymore, but still feels like the level of the Japanese League is better than the Korean League because 1) they pay their foreigners more and 2) because they don't have to do tryouts and instead can just sign a contract with top players.
-Says $200k is to small to bring over a top level player, needs to offer at least 300-400k. Foreign players score the majority of the points for teams, so if a top level international player comes to Korea and puts up 40+ points a match, and are getting paid way less then their teammates who don't score as much, then obviously the foreigners would be angry, hence why top level players don't come. If more top level athletes came to the Korean league, it would bring the league more credibility.
-Asked her bestie Natalia if she wanted to play in the Korean league, and said that a lot of friends are actually very interested in playing in Korea, but the pay is too small. Feels that if they got rid of tryouts and upped the pay to at least $400k that some high level players would 100% play in Korea.
-Really wants Korean volleyball players to go overseas so they can broaden their knowledge of volleyball, especially when they are young.
-At the end of the video she said she was coming to the US (Los Angeles) to train and also relax a little bit.
