UCLA passing broke down and too many hitting errors. I think this is the first match where both May and Luper hit under .200. The right side attack is non-existent for UCLA. I hope McCall is okay and is back next week because UCLA missed her today.

Interesting that Lane came in to set in the 5th set too. Not sure why Sealy didn't try her earlier or heck even in other matches.

Interesting that Lane came in to set in the 5th set too. Not sure why Sealy didn't try her earlier or heck even in other matches. In the 5th set, ASU outscored UCLA by more than they outscored them in sets 3 and 4 combined. ASU scored 87.5% more points than UCLA with her setting. It was UCLA's worst set of the match. And knowing all that, you still wonder why Sealy doesn't play Lane more? Hmm. My argument is not about Lane being a better setter. It’s about the decisions made. Often when things are not going ucla’s way, the middles get pulled. Rarely does Martin get pulled or even may when she is in the back row. He hasn’t even tried lane this season so it was a strange time to put her in when ucla was already down big in the 5th set.

Wait, the setting change happened in the 5th set? Yes. Lane came in when UCLA was down 3-9 as Jacobs rotated to the back row and Martin was going into the front row. From there, she had 2 assists, 1 block assist, and 1 kill.

Hmm. Hi, are you new here? Nobody, least of all GoUCLA, is calling for Lane to be UCLA's primary setter. The questions is why wait until you're down 9-3 in a must-win 5th set to make the change?? Especially with the weakest of your 3 available setters? It's a very strange move, all things considered. Now I have been very vocal about making that change earlier to give your hitters a different look. Like after the 3rd set when your team hit .054. If it works out, cool. If it doesn't, you've at least given Martin time to step back, seeing what's work and what's not on your side of the net as well as observing what the other team is doing. But again, no one is asking for Lane to be in as the starting setter. Like, ever.
