Tight out of system is signature Texas. You’re right, it shouldn’t work but somehow it does. no these are worse than usual. There have been some really messy plays isu is letting Texas get away with
Oh, gawd. Spare us!

Am I the only one that thinks Heinrich is inching closer to unseating Peterson? She defended well at TCU. I wonder about her passing numbers.

She might have played more tonight if it wasn’t Pererson’s swan song close to home. Frankly, I was surprised to see Heinrich at all, which is what made me wonder if she is moving up the depth chart

General observation: Good win against a solid team on the road fighting for a tournament spot. Play wasn’t always clean and downright ugly early. The ceiling is high enough in several aspects that they can overcome some aspects not playing very well. Definitely need to tighten up aspects of the game without letting other slip but every team has their flaws though few will admit it. Hopefully they pick up where they left off tomorrow. If a 3-1 game where the opponent hits 0% is struggling I can live with that. I want them to be perfect but know aren’t. I’ll take this squad in a best of 5 against anyone.
Serving;B Aces was close to season avg but need to lower the errors and more importantly apply pressure. On set 1 they did not do a good job of applying pressure.
Passing: C- Got better but way too many out of system balls. Logan looked like a Janitor early taking out so much trash. Iowa St got their share of aces too. Would have been a D or F after the first 2 sets.
Setting: C- See passing.
Hitting: C Molly and Skylar were critical getting kills when needed. But the prior 2 areas weren’t good enough for this to be higher.
Blocking: A After the first set they dominated the net, getting blocks and forcing hitting errors. Second game, maybe 3rd game in a row we have seen improvement.

She did play in 2 of 3 sets in the second match and had 5 digs.

Also you cannot serve short with Herrera and Asija in the middle, they are going to quick set and asija isn’t quick enough on the vertical to block it. You have to serve it somewhere else and force something other than the quickest to the middle.

I would really like her to get more time on the floor if possible.

You can afford to have a subpar receiving, setting, hitting night when you get 27 points of blocks and aces. That’s like a defense in football getting 21 points off defensive and special team touchdowns.

Happy with the result. I feel like I'm a broken record, but a 3-1 win on the road helps the team more (mentally) than a sweep (which I know our fans would prefer). Getting down early in tonight's match and having to fight way back in the first set is a good thing, even if they came up 2 points short of winning it. The final 3 sets were pretty dominant based on the scores (-16, -14, 12) especially on the road; but, those easy, lop-sided sets don't help the team as much as if those sets had been much closer. Still, it's a conference win on the road at a tough venue.

It's good to see the balance among our hitters with 9, 9, 8, 8, and 6 kills a piece. But, I can't recall the last time we didn't have at least one player with double-digit kills in a 4-set match.
