I stand corrected. Looks like Texas and Oklahoma managed to get out a year early after all. I'm sorry. I couldn't hear you because I was too close to the situation. Excellent.

SMU and SDSU to the Pac 12? That seems to be the latest rumor.

It just makes more sense this way.
Or... cents. Dollars and cents.
Money always speaks loudest in these discussions.

SMU and SDSU to the Pac 12? That seems to be the latest rumor. Well, Kliavkoff recently made a trip to SMU. And then there's this: Yormark has proven to be a pretty effective commissioner so far. My guess is that he's targeting the Arizona schools first.

SDSU and SMU would potentially get a lower share than the remaining PAC schools. SDSU is still a possibility for the B12. Gonzaga looks to be ready to make a move - Yormark wants them. Yormark isn't necessarily looking to maximize current $'s and is looking to expand to 16 and into the pacific time zone. I think it is a bad sign that the PAC hasn't been able to negotiate a TV deal. But then - the Arizona schools haven't moved to the B12 yet (good sign for the PAC). I am thinking - the PAC needs the right money to keep the Arizona schools - which is in part why the unequal share to SDSU. But then, if the B12 isn't 100% motivated by money - I can see them leveraging SDSU to get the Arizona schools or wait the PAC out until they can no longer provide enough money for the AZ schools to stay. Those 4 corner PAC schools are in a weird place right now on what to do.

The Pac 12 needs to stretch from SoCal to Texas for FB recruiting. Texas Tech was the obvious TX choice for a western conference. Thus proving that the PAC 12 has fallen behind the Big 12.

I'm not against it, but I'm skeptical that the Big 12 would want a school that doesn't play football. That being said, if Yormark is the one making the push, that makes it more likely. He seems very good at getting things done. As for the Arizona schools, I think Arizona has been open to leaving for a while but didn't want to go on its own, and Arizona State didn't want to leave. But supposedly ASU is more open to it now in part because they were one of the schools most upset that Kliavkoff apparently over-promised and under-delivered on the media negotiations, at least so far.

Pursuing Gonzaga because of its men's basketball program just baffles me. Once their head coach retires, there's no guarantee they will remain a hoops powerhouse (if that's what they are currently considered) under the leadership of the subsequent head coach.

Other than saying "we have a school in Texas for possible recruiting purposes", I have no idea why the Pac-12 would want SMU. Disregarding the fact that it's a private, religiously rooted institution with no elite academic prestige, SMU hasn't even been a ranked football team since, checks notes, 1984. Do people really think that a Dallas TV market is going to tune in to watch terrible Cal play terrible SMU?

I don't really disagree with your overall point, but SMU has been ranked in 2019, 2020 and 2021 (before that, it had been a while--1986).

SMU and SDSU to the Pac 12? I had been hearing Fresno State and SDSU Given that Kliavkoff made a visit to SMU, it seems that SMU is one of the favorites. I haven't heard much about Fresno State recently.

Those are the ones that count, especially in football considering how few games they play.
