How devastating, just sad. I feel for her family, friends, coaches and team mates.

it is sickening what some of these groups/cultures do to innocent people.
on a side note, I've never understood why beheading is considered so much worse than any other form o killing. But I digress.

I think it is considered worse as it is an intentional act of desecration. It's like not just destroying a temple, but rather damaging it and smearing excrement.

And they should have moments of silence - and recognition of this threat to women's sports and independence - at NCAA volleyball matches all across the country.

I would love to see something from the NCAA and from individual teams. I bet a lot of people don't know about it. Players have a lot going on and it wouldn't surprise me for this to not be on their radar. And while, I don't think we should force traumatic events on people, I still think this is important.

I agree completely. Not to force it on them, but to connect the dots...for awareness. In the U.S., Title IX transformed women's athletics, etc., etc., and this is directly connected to the rights of women their ages all over the planet. To quote the old bumper sticker, "No one is free when others are oppressed." Or beheaded. There is also the issue of the murdered woman's ethno-religious background. Which connects to similar issues confronted by athletes of color here, etc.... (Okay...down off soapbox) I hope they know about it.

Yeah, because minority volleyball players in the U.S. are decapitated all the time. Sometimes I just can't get my head around how stupid and illogical some people are.

This is unreal. “Alleged…” Said that she was “left behind,” unable to be rescued when the Taliban were handed control of Afghanistan. The coach said they were hunting down female athletes to kill them. Daring their petrified families to report them.

The woman in Afghanistan was targeted partially because she was a minority, and because she was a volleyball player. Get your head around that.

The woman in Afghanistan was targeted partially because she was a minority, and because she was a volleyball player. Get your head around that. She is from a line of descendants from Ghengis Khan, and considered long time enemies. This poor standout athlete was hunted down because of that, not because she was a minority. I would rather focus on the actual event(s) surrounding this than to create a new story line. Such a sad tragedy that deserves a pure spotlight.

Read the article: "Around 10 per cent Muslims in Sunni-majority Afghanistan are Shiite and almost all of them are Hazaras." 10 percent means 90 percent are NOT Shiite/Hazara, so she was in the minority. I didn't create a new story line. That's an important part of the story line.
