Agree with most of the posters that Riverside was young and generally outmatched, but did a good job keeping the ball alive and fighting for points. As mentioned before, a lot of the Big West teams are young this year, so it will be great to see how the players progress over the next few years. To me, BVS is the lead for conference POY. UCSB is too well balanced with no players really standing out, even though they are very impressive as a team. She showed what she can do this weekend and why she is so valuable to the team. And while I do understand some fans concerns about next year without her, I trust the coaching staff to develop the other players. BVS had great matches in 2019. She had 14 kills and hit .370 in the match against Nebraska. But she also had bad matches, like hitting zero against UCSB and CSUN. She was averaging less than 2.5 kills per set (although she might have been just in the back row for a couple of sets which may have brought down her average) and she only had 20 aces in that season. She almost reached half of her entire 2019 season ace total this weekend alone. So, I think the staff can find ways to develop another terminator by next season. It may not be an All American type hitter but someone will step up. The negatives for me in this match was the setting. Not a good night for Lang. The obvious mistake was that mis-set to no one in the 2nd set. You could see BVS out of position when she tried to dig the ball and I don't know if she was trying to set Igiede or if she didn't realize there was no left side hitter. But I noted she has made those mistakes before. It comes with inexperience, but UCSB has 2 junior setters and even though one of their setters converted from libero, you can see how comfortable they make their offense look. And another poster made a good point about going to the hot hand. Running a diverse offense is good but if a player is getting kill after kill, you don't need to spread the ball as evenly. But I do like the upside for Lang so I think all of the playing time now will pay off down the road. Her ONLY option was to set Amber who never went up to hit.. I’d hardly call that her fault.. if anything it was Ambers fault.. Amber seemed to be way out in front on almost every middle set in front of Lang tonight..

The play this person is referencing iirc Amber moved too to dig the ball too, it was a chaotic moment. Also the ball looked out of Ambers reach. I think Lang should’ve just sent the ball over on 2.

If Wagoner improves as much next year by as she did this year, she's going to be phenomenal. I see a player who could carry the team one day. She had a decent night hitting but was aced multiple times… when she can terminate against above average teams then I’ll agree with you.. she has DONE nothing against competitive teams.. she hit negative against Marquette, San Diego, Utah, USC and barely 0.100 against Poly and UCSB..

Her ONLY option was to set Amber who never went up to hit.. I’d hardly call that her fault.. if anything it was Ambers fault.. Amber seemed to be way out in front on almost every middle set in front of Lang tonight.. I would have to rewatch for the exact details, but Leoniak was in the front right at the time and Wagoner would have been available out of the back row, so Lang had other options. BVS had crossed over from the front left to the right to try to dig the ball (which Igiede dug) so BVS was out of position to attack. I don't recall if the Riverside right side blocker would have cheated in given there was no attacking option on Hawaii's left side, but it could have put two potential blockers up on Igiede.

These past two matches are nice wins and pretty much expected. I'll hold my breath until I start seeing more consistent passing and efficiency. That's pretty much what I'm sensing with a lot of Hawaii fans on other social media outlets - they're holding their breath before their comments get ahead of them. A 10 point lead only to see it diminish? This Hawaii team likes to play sloppy midgame and give the other team massive point runs.

It was such a bang bang play it was nearly impossible to set anyone else..

I can't wait till the next match between UH and Fullerton. Fullerton took UH to five on UH home court. I just hope UH don't take Fullerton for granted.
