Why does this match even exist? Did Fisher expect American to be an RPI-booster?

Why does this match even exist? Did Fisher expect American to be an RPI-booster? Chinaza Ndee's sister plays for American. Maybe they wanted a chance for them to play against each other?

I don't know if anyone else has the stream working but it's showing the ESPN+ logo for me. Frankly that might be a mercy as it looks from live stats like it was 25-7 to Pitt in the opening set.

25-11 in the second, not really much of a contest based on the livestats. Wondering if the ESPN+ feed isn't up because there was a Patriot league tournament soccer game earlier and a men's basketball game later tonight.

Why does this match even exist? Did Fisher expect American to be an RPI-booster? Seriously! I didn't know that teams can schedule OOC at this point in the season.

I'm sure ASU would love to be able to just skip matches with OSU and Cal and take on some of the Big 12 teams loitering around in the at-large range. I'm sure your team, Penn State would happily skip this week and do a tour de Florida ACC

SEC softball is so cutthroat that you can be a genuinely very good team and end your season under .500. You regularly see the last place team in the league schedule last-minute mid-week double-headers against inferior opponents just to get above .500 and then make it into the postseason. But, with Pitt this is obviously not that... so it just seems weird.

But, with Pitt this is obviously not that... so it just seems weird. It's not entirely weird. As this was not a last minute scheduled match, these type of matches are planned before the season. Baylor played North Texas. Florida State/UNF was an added match though. West Virginia and Howard was not an added match either, it had been planned, not a bad RPI choice either. You see these in the conferences where they have weeks off or less than 2 matches per week, teams will add local opponents to get another match in, particularly if they have an 'open date' remaining from the non-conference. American is down this year, but they are still one of the top teams in the Patriot League even though they are pretty awful for their standards. It seemed like a great RPI match to schedule before the season, and their W/L record now is still serviceable.
