I love the CAL fans who are remaining optimistic till the end of the season despite CAL losing badly lately, and continue to vote that CAL will get a win and get sets.

Be prepared for a winless conference slate for Cal and for there to be major changes at the end of the season The coach will be back. Cal hit a perfect storm of where everything that could go wrong did. "Murphy's Law" took over the program. Cal will rebound. Mahalo, bigfan! Cal was ready for a big 2020 season when the pandemic forced moving WVB to the spring. This led to the transfers of graduates Lauren Forte, Preslie Anderson, and Savannah Rennie to other colleges and having Mima Mirkovic choose to play beach volleyball. In the spring with the depleted and inexperienced roster, Cal used frosh Lydia Grote, Katarina Pantovic, and Sam Taumoepeau extensively in its 1-21 season. This season saw injuries to Mima, Lydia, and Katarina from the outset that have affected their play, and now the setter Annalea Maeder got hurt two weeks ago. Even without the injuries, Cal doesn't have the depth to be contenders, but IMO they wouldn't be winless in conference play. Wishing for the best! GO BEARS!

Definitely disappointing to see Cal do so poorly, but I agree with bigfan and senseibear that Cal just not able to catch a break. They did well in 2019 and should've made the tourney. If not for covid, 2020 would probably have been a good year. Haynes, Rennie and Huizenga(passer) gone to graduation, but would still have had Forte and Anderson along with Bergmark, who's really improved this season. Starters would probably look something like OH Mirkovic and Smoot/Pantovic/Meyer (replacing Haynes) MB Forte and Anderson/Bergmark OPP Grote and Lilomaiva/Taumoepeau (replacing Huizenga and Rennie) S Potter and Jensen/Blevins L Bellizi who was already splitting time with Smith This year has definitely been a problem with all the injuries. I think they'd have a few conference wins with these starters OH Mirkovic and Smoot/Pantovic MB Bergmark and Grote OPP Schmidt (and Lilomaiva if 6-2) S Maeder (and Jensen if 6-2) L Bellizi/DeSa Still thjn at MB, otherwise move Grote to Opp Just tough for Crosson, but some stuff just not under his control.

Someone in the UW/Stan thread just said Timmer got hurt tonight. Any info?

Just as the Cougs' were beginning to really get into rhythm the set came to a screeching halt as star outside hitter Pia Timmer went down with an injury that would keep her out the rest of the way. Despite the loss of Timmer the Cougs were able to finish off the win in the opening set thanks to a perfect start from Magda Jehlarova as the standout middle tallied four kills on four swings to lead the attack. She would also come up with a pair of blocks in the set as the Cougs recorded three total blocks while holding the Bears to just .167 hitting.
^via the recap. Still curious what the injury was

No one has described what happened, so hard to say what the injury is. Hopefully it is something like a recoverable ankle sprain.

No one has described what happened, so hard to say what the injury is. Hopefully it is something like a recoverable ankle sprain. Someone was asking about this on the Stanford WSU thread for this weekend, and I posted the following: I am not 100% about what the injury exactly was, but I'll agree that it did not look or sound good. She came down in a heap on the floor with anguished cries. Felt bad for her. From what I saw I think it was knee but it could have been ankle. She left the floor only by means of helpers under each armpit and was not putting more than a couple pounds on the right foot.

L Bellizi who was already splitting time with Smith Could I ask for you to opine on why Bellizi hasn't gotten more PT?
