In the glass half full category, who had Demps leading the Badgers in digs this season in a win?

Plus a double double on efficient hitting for Demps.

This match was strange. At times the badgers looked dominant with a strong serving game. Then they start making HEs and it seems contagious and they let the other team in. Still getting blocked too much. Seem to have forgotten Demps in the back row for much of the set three The lineup with smrek seemed to be vulnerable the last two sets.

Orzol got stronger as the match progressed. She is almost automatic when she swings from the right side. 15ks .297, that's a really nice stat line

probably way too late at this point but Rettke needs to learn how to serve. THey cannot keep on running out of subs because of her. Rettke served her first three years. She wasn't great, but she was very much OK. The thing is, if Izzy isn't serving that spot, then Izzy is never serving, and Izzy is way too good to not serve. She was outstanding tonight. They ran out of subs tonight because either Sheffield had a brain cramp at 23-22 in that third set and let Izzy go in when he was at 13 subs, or it was hubris on his part, thinking they would close it out and using that 'one more' sub wouldn't matter. As it was, Izzy going in was sub #14 and he still had Boyer on the floor (maybe Sheffield was thinking that was #13, and he still had two to get Boyer and Ashburn back out). So #15 was Loberg in for Boyer, and three rotations later, middle blocker Izzy Ashburn. When it came time for Ashburn to go back in, Devyn Robinson starts running off expecting to see Dana. When she sees Ashburn, she stops, and gets this quizzical 'what the hell...?' look on her face. It was funny (though it would have been funnier if they don't lose the set!)

Ok, it was entertaining seeing what they’d do with Izzy. I didn’t catch every rotation but I saw Hilley blocking middle once and Izzy on the right and when Izzy came back in again they left her on the left

The Hilley hitting until her arm probably almost fell off made Champlin Park with Izzy setting competitive in the Minnesota state tournament (Hilley did have ridiculous hitting stats then), but this is a different level.

I didn’t catch every rotation but I saw Hilley blocking middle once and Izzy on the right and when Izzy came back in again they left her on the left At least once, they moved after serve to Loberg in the middle with Izzy on the left and Hilley (?) on the right. And there was at least one rotation when the front row was Orzol, Ashburn and Hilley. (And there was one set point when Devyn was back on the floor, ball comes to Hilley with Devyn right in front of her, and I'm thinking "set the player playing in her normal spot!", but Hilley went back set to Orzol on the right, the timing was off and MSU got the point. Argh!) ----------- Adding, I'll be interested to see if anybody asks Sheffield about it, and what he has to say.

Nice to see Civita back on the court, even if for only part of one set.

One other thing to note from the weird third set: it wasn't any Badger coaches or players who saw the foot fault and called for the challenge. It was a half-dozen or so fans in section F, midcourt, who saw it and kept yelling until Sheffield heard them and made the challenge. I actually thought the refs might say he waited too long before 'presenting the green card' because it took a good number of seconds before the bench noticed the fans yelling, etc.

This is not an NC team. I don't know who is, but it isn't them. This match shouldn't be the reason you realize that. OH play is too important to winning to give WI any chance. Oh, I know that! They haven't been championship caliber since they beat Minnesota. Maybe that Nebraska match. I thought Orzol could make them so, but although playing well, she's no freshman Kathryn Plummer.

Orzol is fearless. I love that side of her. She goes for it. She reminds me of freshman Haggerty in that respect. She needs to marry that core attribute with a little more craft and game awareness now that she is at another level. She'll get there.
Also, I don't think anyone thought she'd be the next Kathryn Plummer! She passes better for one thing. And she never looks gassed!

To me, the big thing now that civita is a real uncertainty going forward is that they slowly need to get the BR attack into the normal offense. Jade is making leaps and bounds there from week to week. Her Defense was really good last night, and she was hitting with some authority and vision. The OH play will improve in those rotations if they can improve that connection more. The backrow has to learn to pass with two pretty often, which is a difference from earlier in the year. Interested to see that MSU targeted Barnes so much last night in SR.
Right now, Loberg is managing and still often hitting long when over the block. She needs to get those backline heatseakers back if she is to regain her effectiveness. She did take some good OOS swings at times last night, and had at least one really hard sharp cross court kill that was impressive. I sometimes feel that Hilley's setting is not as consistent in this section of the season. It has forced some caution from the OHs.
