She's saying that, according to Pettit, Russ tried to steal Terry's head coaching position by going to the admin behind Terry's back, because he felt was doing all the coaching work during practice. Of course, that's only one half of the story. I'd prefer to hear the other half before making judgements about that situation. But, even if we assume this is totally true, you make it sound as if it would have been a net negative for Nebraska. In hindsight, I'm curious how many other Husker fans would have been unhappy with that change? If Terry Pettit and Russ Rose parted on bad terms, that is unfortunate. In the end it worked out well for both schools and I doubt many Husker fans would want to trade Pettit for Rose any more than Penn State fans would want to trade Rose for Pettit.
There has been as they say a lot of water under the bridge since the late 70's. I for one am glad Russ Rose found success in State College and wish the best of luck to Russ and the Penn State players all but a couple times a year.
Correct. We should stop repeating decades old rumors as truth. In 1978, they both were quite young.

3 pages?? That's it. We can do better! Here's some discussion topics before the match:
Nebraska fans: We've obviously seen Kubik has really been coming through as a dependable offensive leader for this team (give or take a match) this season. How do we feel about her leadership role this season? With quite a few graduating leaders, do we think she's successfully stepped into a role that will be expected of her next year?
Penn State fans: In a team full of "stars", Starck has (unexpectedly) shown up and showed out when the Nittany Lions have needed someone to make an impact. Is there a favorite "under the radar" player from this current crop of players or from past teams that you didn't expect to make the impact they did so soon but were impressed with when they did?
For neutral fans: What's your favorite in-conference rivalry and the best match between those two teams you either experienced live or watched on TV? 🍿

For neutral fans: What's your favorite in-conference rivalry and the best match between those two teams you either experienced live or watched on TV? Obviously not neutral, but the most amazing match between these two teams was the 1990 Regional where 44-0 Penn State came to the Coliseum and got beat by Nebraska. I think the Nittany Lions had lost two sets all year. There was a huge missed four-hit call on Penn State. The crowd exploded. For several points afterward, we counted Penn State's hits, ONE! TWO! THREE! It very clearly rattled them - so much so that the coaches huddled with the refs, and Pettit got on the announcer's mic to tell the crowd to stop. So we stopped. But we got louder. And louder. And louder. I don't think I've ever heard a crowd so small make so much noise. The Coliseum's volleyball setup took up half the old basketball court. It seated a bit over 4,000 people. It had a big vaulted roof held up by steel rafters. It was a big space, but our voices were bigger. We made so much noise that dust was shaking down off the rafters. No exaggeration. My ears were ringing from that noise for days. It was like a rock concert.

Excited to watch how this match unfolds and her response. I think she can be a tremendous leader (just a gut feeling)!

Whenever I’m sad about Husker sports I re watch sets 3 and 4 on YouTube of the 2008 game (and then mentally block out set 5). What an incredible game and atmosphere!

I think Kubik has been great this season. She is a very good leader moving towards being a great leader.

Correct. We should stop repeating decades old rumors as truth. In 1978, they both were quite young. I was very surprised Gwen shared that. Gwen wasnt there when it happened: hearsay as the say in law! It was Pettit’s second year coaching vb at Neb. : rose was 3 years out of college, and fresh from coaching a team from puerto rico; pettit’s back round was : Terry Pettit is a published poet who earned an MFA in creative writing, after earning a B.S. in English from Manchester University in Indiana. He attended graduate school in theology and worked as a reporter for the Church of the Brethren before teaching English at Louisburg College, in Louisburg, North Carolina. rose was a Coleman protege so Rose maybe had more vb than pettit at time , hell Corbelli was assistant in ‘81 and Corbelli (x USA assistant under Sellinger) at that time wss way better than rose or pettit volleyball wise!! If I was pettit in my early years hiring all these more experienced than me assistants i might be paranoid too!! But give terry credit; his teams in those early year's were good because he made sure that he had assistants to help team be successful in the things he was weak !! He had his strengths at that moment in time: and give TP credit he always hired highly skilled vb coaches as his assistants. And Gwens story: cute and entertaining : but really 1977-‘78. Rose a 25(-/+) year old !! Who knows?
