Random questions -
Is it only scholarship players that can use the portal?
What happens if a player goes into the portal and doesn't get picked up? Are they just done? Or do they stay on at their current school (maybe demoted to walk-on)? Although that's gotta be awkward AF.

In fact I understand a significant number in the portal are "walk-ons" typically trying to find a school that will offer a ship. If a player enters the portal and doesn't transfer, it's up to the school what happens next. School could keep them on scholarship, but they do have the right under the portal rule to pull the ship starting with the next semester.

It just dawned on me that she would have just signed 17 days ago if she signed on the first day. Wonder why she just didn't sign if she was going to change her mind on schools? I suspect she won't get released for awhile at least. Her recent signing is what made me suspect in the first place. Maybe she didn’t sign an actual NLI. Could just be a form from school for ceremonial purposes. If she isn’t going to be on scholarship for first semester, then she does not sign an NLI.

Kylee McLaughlin has been a huge success for Ole Miss. Without Rollins, PSU wouldn't crack the top 25. wait till you see the mess PSU is going to be next year.

Abby Bottomley should be high on the impact transfers list I thought she was a grad student who has used up her eligibility?

My understanding is that she can still transfer for the spring. She just wouldn't be able to participate in athletic competition until the fall when the NLI expires. The transfer rule would cover her eligibility to play next fall (regardless of whether she transfers before or after the spring). Generally this isn't true. If an athlete signs an NLI, they are required to spend a full academic year (2 semesters/3 quarters) at the school they signed with. The penalty for breaking that agreement is they must spend a year in residency at the new school and forfeit a year of eligibility. In practice, if an athlete goes to their coach in December and says "I'm absolutely not playing here next fall", the coach and administration will almost always be fine releasing them from their NLI and allow them to go away. It doesn't benefit anybody to make them stay there for the spring and use up a scholarship if you know they won't be there the next fall. The exception MIGHT be during a coaching change. I guess administration could require them to give the new hire a shot for a semester in the spring. I think schools are just releasing players to avoid bad PR. Julie Wittekind 2021 DS/L graduated early and went to Tennessee in the spring of 2021 then transferred to Cincinnati and competed in the fall of 2021.

Considering she didn't even start for Cincinnati this fall, I find it highly unlikely she was on a 4-year scholarship at Tennessee. So she wouldn't have signed an NLI.

Is that confirmation of the rumored transfer in the same position who visited recently? Yeap Are we talking about long horn hands that visited the state of NC not long ago coming in as a transfer? And then other hands leaving? I'm really not good at all this clue hunting. Clearly I need to work on it, lol!
