Campfire by Utes put Stanford up 23-21. Traded points lead to Stanford 24-22, TO Utah. Stanford using Kipp from the back row to counter their weak front row hitters Sure, but she clearly had the hot hand. It was smart. We like smart.

OK, I can’t add the Utes to my list of teams can’t “play with.” That’s a nice confidence builder after that dull effort in Colorado. Kipp was all-everything.

Kipp - 19 kills, .385 and 10 digs Baird - 19 kills, .311 and 9 digs It forces Kipp (and Francis) to pass in a few rotations, but moving Baird to OH1 so she's not next to Kipp in the rotation has paid off. Their numbers are going up.

I really thought Kipp was over the 10' line at 22-21 in the fourth, so as a Stanford fan I'm glad Beth didn't challenge there! But overall, a really impressive win for the Cardinal. A nice job of relying on Kipp and Baird late in sets to help them finish; I think Francis has been a little dicey under those situations in the past, so hopefully the veterans (relatively) can help Stanford be more efficient once both teams hit 20. Madi Robinson was quite good; as some have suggested, maybe hitting against Miner instead of Kipp helped her. Drews was a little below her usual standards. And apparently the Card finished with 8 aces and 6 service errors? Who replaced our Stanford team with some other team? ? The last few matches it seems like they've really turned a corner with the serving, keeping it tough but reducing errors a lot. I still think they can run the middles a little more, but I also like 6-rotation Kipp a lot, and she's pretty tough on that pipe. I think that's back-to-back double-doubles this week. If Stanford can beat USC and Cal next week, they head into the tournament with some pretty nice momentum -- I also wasn't sure if they could pull out this Utah match. And they are looking as healthy as they've been with Berty back, and A. Smith in uniform too. And Thursday's announcer said Lougeay wasn't too far away -- although I still like Kipp playing all the way around, and then maybe Lougeay returns as the serving specialist? The serve receive is still pretty sketchy, and the defense isn't great, but after that Arizona trip, it seems like the Cardinal is back to showing some steady improvement.

Any links for a YouTube replay? I tried to set up my computer to record the stream while I was out, but made a typo and didn't catch it. :-(
