How long before everyone, including NCAA coaches, can complain loudly enough about not seeding all 64 teams in a women’s championship? Regionalization is a joke and saves 20K a year. Dear NCAA- you make +90 million on one tournament. Sell the rights to this one appropriately and you’d make more.

Seeding the teams 1-64 will take away a lot of the politics and it could give this sport new excitement. I can imagine how fun it would be to see where everyone would end up.

It’s more than 20k, just because they’d have to do it in every sport….
We see how chintzy the NCAA was when it came to non-revenue sports during the COVID tourneys….

When women's volleyball is roughly as popular as women's basketball (for TV viewers) and probably not before then.

the NCAA fully seeds the MBB tournament because that is their biggest moneymaker. they fully seed the WBB just in the name of "equity" to match the MBB bracket.
the NCAA isn't in charge of the FBS football "playoff", but they are in charge of the FCS football playoff, and they only seed the top 8 of 24 (they used to only seed the top quarter, same as they do for VB: as they only seeded the top 4 when it was a 16-team field, and the top 5 when it was a 20-team field. They bumped it up to seeding the top 8 when they moved to a 24-team b/c it made more sense with the format than just doing the top 6). I'm fairly sure they only seed the top quarter or so in the D2 and D3 playoffs too.
Are there any other sports where they fully seed the tournament field? I don't really follow any other college sports that closely.

They have a budget of 6 flights, and have to use at least 4 on the "western islands" that are all 500+ miles from anyone else. Here are some stats for each region in 2021 using each school's average of their Pablo/Massey/HuskerGeek rankings. Regional | ave rank | median rank | # top 25 | # top 50 | # top 100 | # over 100 | # AVCA top 25 |

note: the top 25 columns foot to 23 since MHB and Santa Cruz did not get in. These numbers are typical of every year.

Wrestling is a sport where they take their brackets seriously, and they talk about "the true 3rd" with consolation matches all over the place. Except in Indiana, where they have a 16 wrestler regional and send the 4 semi-finalists to state with no wrestle-backs or consolation. No true 3rd or 4th.... Coaches don't like it.
