I thought Lube would get back in it after Zaytsev's little run but-
Fornal has been really solid

Wegiel is too balanced. Zaytzev can't do it by himself. But he's gonna try...

hold on...not so fast edit: nvm Getting blocked on an overpass swing might have been the kiss of death.

This goes back to what we were talking about earlier on the women’s side. I just wish a win was a win. I have little interest in men’s teams so whoever moves on doesn’t matter to me, but it’d be cool if cube could win in the 5th and then play a golden set. I do understand why they have it they way they do though.

And now the 5th set is just boring when it should be the most exciting moment of the match because you can tell teams just don’t care anymore.

Meh. I am indifferent on the format. The teams know in advance what has to be done. It gives more weight to each individual set, which is whatever. I would imagine it has more to do with not wanting to do a third match and throw off the timing of the rounds/playoffs, which are already being fit in around the regular club season. Saves costs, saves travel, saves dates, etc.

Looks like Jastrzebski's about to win the fifth set, but if Lube had won in 5, they could just play a golden set. I don't really hate it but I'm not the biggest fan of the current format.

Of the iterations of the playoffs since it became the Champions League in 2000-2001, I like this version the best. The first 9 years went just the count of sets. If you sweep a team then win the first set in the return leg and the match is over. If they were tied it went to points. From 2009-2010 until 2012-2013 the amount of sets didn't matter. If two different teams won each match, it went to a golden set. That last year, Dynamo Moscow wins the first leg against Trentino in 5 sets. Walks through the next match, gets swept, and then puts their foot on the gas to win the golden set. I agree that days like today proved to have two meaningless fifth sets, but the current format does provide more meaningful volleyball for longer in the series.
