I watched the second Tennessee-LSU match and unfortunately for me that match has seared into my brain. I can't in good conscience pick Tennessee in any match where they are playing a D1 opponent.

When you compare the 2, these two teams were identical before Emily Zinger of UNC went down....both teams had 2 very capable OHs, 2 decent middles, and a lefty OPP....Zinger going down has really hurt UNC on the RS with no stable replacement....
UT has good win over Baylor and pushed Pitt to 5....but has really bad losses to LSU and Missouri....UNC has thier own bad loss to UVA but redeemed that with a resounding sweep in Charlottesville.
With that:
UNC has the edge on the pins for me....they boast the ACC FOY in Shaffmaster who is physical and crafty...Parker-Robinson is just dynamite....but UT has a fun pair. Felts is a decent player and Runnels is athletic, watch her back row attack. Should be fun to watch.
the middles are a closer battle. Ava Bell left UNC after one season to follow Eve...Bell is good offensively, but often is late closing the block. Mahafey is just a good all around player for UT. UNC boast Merkler who offensively is a lot to handle and Phegley who is also offensively driven. whatever team can use the middles the most IMO will be the winner of this contest.
UT has the clear edge on the RS....Fingel is much more dynamic than anyone we have placed on the RS....Skyy can block but cant score...Peck cant do either, and Austin is coming back slowly. I think you go with her and let her get in a groove because she at least plays clean. If UT slows our lefts and middle with their big block, and it comes down to open shots for the RS....UT wins that battle.
Libero and littles is clearly UNC...Wurl is the better libero and the combo of Shannon and Diaz/Meyerhoefer is solid.
UNC is the much better serving team....1.37 aces/set compared to UT at 1.0.
I am fully expecting a battle with at least one set going extra points....
Keys to the Match:
Tennessee: 1. play to the strength of the block 2. receive cleanly 3. Slow the pins of UNC
UNC: 1. continue serving tough 2. Spread the offense 3. Slow the UT middles

So ready for this match. UNC players are feeling very confident. Had probably the best few days of practice all year this week.
Ready to see the coaching chess match ups.

What are the odds that Columbus Native and former Tarheel Hunter Atherton will be in attendance?
