Just looking at the stats from this match, and what a turnaround. Could be the most re-dank-u-lous reverse sweep in NCAA history

I don’t ever doubt Purdue. I’ve been a fan since they came to Texas back in 2011 I believe? But I’m also a fan of chaos and would relish an upset... pull it together Dayton! That’s when I became a fan too! That Texas team was stacked even without hooker. Kisner was awesome 2011 is the best could of year. If Hart didn’t go down, Purdue could of went to the Final Four. I loved that Purdue team lol.

Prediction: big emotional letdown for the boilermakers. Dayton takes advantage and goes up early. Newton does what newton does and goes back to an error every other point. The other girls can’t compensate. They try. Dayton wins 15-10. So much for your prognostication skills. Clearly I was wrong. But on to the next

I loved that Purdue team lol. I was at that match. Student section (shows my age I guess). She was tearing us up until she went down; and it was heartbreaking to watch. They still put up a good fight, but Texas was too good without Purdue’s starting setter. I want to say Julianne Faucette had an incredible match after the first set and a half.

The team was very emotional and didn’t tell the public until after the loss to Texas. That Purdue was super special and the fans loved them. Davis was a true freshman setter and did as well as she could.

So we were there tonight, and Emma Ellis was banging balls in the first set, and then she was not seen for the rest of the match - anyone know what happened? If this was already covered earlier, I apologize, but we were mystified when they started playing Maddy Chinn and Ellis never came back in - thanks! Was a fun comeback to watch - that 4th set was unreal at 25-6 - amazing how things can change sooooooo quickly!

None of us know what was said between the coaches, but my guess is she just had some really bad unforced errors (her 1st swing of the match was long, way over the top of the block; her last error was into the middle of the net when she should've just sent the ball over into play) and, because Purdue lost the 1st set and was trailing in the 2nd set, they needed a change. Chinn definitely didn't wail on the ball like Ellis, but she kept it in play and I think that's what the coaching staff needs. Keep it in play, let the team's stellar block and phenomenal defense do the rest. In system, Ellis is pretty unstoppable but Purdue was just out of system way too much in those first two sets. She doesn't adjust well to those kinds of sets. Credit to Dayton because they were putting in work to unsettle Purdue.

The town and college really came out for this Purdue team again. I wasn’t surprised by how full it was…but I was more impressed that barely anyone left for the Mens basketball game. The crowd stayed with the team until the last point of the 5th set. I was also very happy to see the team high five the student section and crowd. They only did that when they beat IU at home and this game. The team was hesitant, but M. Hornung started it and the team followed. The team really appreciates the fans and the fans love them back.

It was Trammell and Colvins night. It was perfect timing for Shondell to pull her and go with Trammell. Johnson was just as vocal on the sidelines and cheering her teammates on the court. They both helped with the turnaround after the half.

So interesting when it comes to the 5th set. Some reminders:
1) Teams that lose the first two sets and then win sets 3 and 4 are more likely to go on to win set 5. Believe it or not, when it comes to the diestribution in sets 1 - 4, that is the one with the best outcome. It's better than winning sets 1 and 4 or sets 2 and 4 or any of the others. Granted, it's only like a 55% advantage or so, but it's real. 2) When it comes to set 4, the point differential in the first 4 sets is very predictive. The bigger it is, the more likely for the team to win. Purdue's point advantage of 22 was huge. Even then, it's only like 65%.
Set 5 is always a huge risk, but if you have to go there, coming in with wins in sets 3 and 4 and a huge point advantage bodes as well as it can get.
But I'd rather not be there.

That slide has not been working lately but Bush keeps trying. Trammel is just a wall and now she has an extension in Colvin.

Thanks, Otec Only! This must be why I am only a lower level coach, because my take was totally different! I get that there is no way that Grace and Caitlyn and Otec are ever going to get pulled, but I thought they pulled Emma when down around 19-17. Admittedly, she had 3 errors at that point, but she also had 4 kills and a nice dig, and I thought that she was one of the lone players with much spark. The root of their problems in sets 1 and 2 seemed to have little to do with her, but instead were almost wholly due to their pressureless serving, their terrible passing, and the fact that the poor passing kept them almost totally out of system. When they were up 24-22 and caved in that first set, and then they lost set 2 fairly convincingly, I have to admit that they just looked gassed. I am glad that it worked out in sets 3, 4 and 5, but again, from what we saw, Ellis was one of the lone bright spots in set one.
On to the Sweet 16 - let's hope someone upsets Pitt so that we can host again next week!
